“I’m not a food critic. I’m just a regular guy who travels a lot for work and pleasure, and I love good food.

My family and I have been traveling around Eastern Canada and the U.S. for two weeks. We usually make breakfast at our Airbnb or hotel and have one good meal out for lunch or dinner. Feeding a family of four, especially with two big teenage boys, gets expensive, so we try to make that one meal count.

We were staying very close to Bai Wei Grill Bar in Sydney, so one night we decided to walk over.

Honestly, this was the best Chinese food I’ve ever had.

I’ve eaten Chinese food in Richmond, British Columbia; Vancouver, British Columbia; Toronto, Ontario; Los Angeles, California; San Francisco, California; New York, New York; and plenty of other places. Somehow, this little mom-and-pop restaurant in Sydney, Cape Breton, beat them all.

The wife was serving and the husband was cooking. Nothing fancy — just great food, huge portions, reasonable prices and everything tasting fresh and authentic. We literally ordered 12 different things, and every single one was excellent.

If you’re looking for chicken fingers, chicken balls and generic takeout, this probably isn’t the place.

But if you appreciate real, authentic food and those honest little family-run restaurants where people genuinely care about what they’re serving, you need to try this place.

I’d give it 10/10 without hesitation.

“We took my Mom, who has dementia, out for a drive and she insisted we eat and she chose Asian cuisine so we had the easy choice of picking A Bite of Asia awesome the food and atmosphere there and figured Mom would be fine. Suffice it to say, it didn't go as well as planned. she was very excited until she saw her plate. it was a lovely presentation but her dementia decided thst her plate didn't look the way she had expected and, without trying the food, told the staff she couldn't eat it. They amazing staff was unphased and attempted to please her with another dish. Once we were able to get her to settle in another option I took the opportunity to apologize and let the staff know ow what was up and asked.them.to please not take anything personal. Mom turned her nose up to the second plate which we k ew she would like as she eats it quite often. I just want to thank the incredible Management and Staff at A Bite of Asia for the patience, compassion, and understanding theu showed my Mom as well as my wife and I. You did an amazing job under the circumstances nd I want everyone to know.“

Food came out quick, it was hot, clean, a good portion and delicious.

I wish we had a Chinese restaurant like this in my hometown.

“Wandered into Huangs on Saturday afternoon after walking around the city all morning and honestly it was the perfect spot to sit down for a late lunch. The staff sat us by the window without a wait and were happy to walk us through the menu when we couldn't decide. Ended up getting the crispy skin duck and it was easily one of the better versions I've had in Sydney, crispy skin, tender meat, sauce done just right. Great find for a lazy weekend afternoon and I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu.“
