The owner and chef was top chef in China. He prepared meals for the Chairman in China. Just look at the pictures on the wall showing he shook hands with Chairman and leaders of China like Deng Xiaoping. I went their for a party gathering. Most of the dishes were not on the menu. After arriving in town late and not having any idea where to get some dinner, stumbled across Shanghai Bistro. As other reviewers have pointed out this is not your average Americanized Chinese, but very authentic Shanghai style Chinese. Great selection of dishes, excellent service and large portions. Would put this up against many of the best Chinese places around the country.

I grew up in Sacramento, CA in the 60s and 70s where my family’s favorite Chinese restaurant was Frank Fat’s, a legendary Sacramento dinner house run by a prominent Sacramento family. Every dish I’ve had at Shanghai Bistro in Reno takes me back to the great family dinners I had at Frank Fat’s. I look forward to bringing my Sacramento family to Shanghai Bistro, Reno when they come t visit. !!
