There are bars and restaurants that try way too hard. The TLC is the real small town bar with good beer selection, the most comprehensive whiskey selection within 200 miles and a comfortable atmosphere for both locals and Alien/ghost hunters. Karaoke on Thursdays and good vibe the rest of the time. Happy hour until 6 which was a surprise to me.
My wife and I went to the high desert just to see the night stars. It is considered the best place in the continental U.S. to see the night sky without light pollution. It's true, the sky is amazing in the desert. After our stargazing the first night, we drove into town looking for something to do (on a Saturday night). Went in to get a drink and see if I could get a spooky tour of the infamous haunted basement, I was greeted by an awesome bartender, Donna who asked Lacey if she would give me a tour. Lacey gave the best tour and told stories that chilled me to the bone! An eerie energy is in the basement mine beneath TLC and it’s def worth checking out.
