All the bartenders rule. The food rules. The pinball rules. It's a people's pub.

What a fantastic place. The food was amazing. Small menu of items from all over New York, but everything we had was delicious! The on-tap beer selection was extensive and great. The bartender was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. If you’re ever in Albany PLEASE PLEASE stop in and enjoy a beer, a Shirley temple(my daughter had 3), and the wings or garbage plate!

My wife and I stopped in after hearing that they had garbage plates, after expecting a mediocre plate at best so far from our old home (Rochester), we were pleasantly surprised. The plate actually held up to some of the best ones we’ve had back in the 585. The employees were also very friendly and full of great conversation. We will definitely be back to The Excelsior Pub!

I was on the hunt for a Garbage Plate in my new home of the Capital Region; this is the only place I could find one on the menu...and I looked all over. I spent way too much time toiling with the prospect of not being impressed by a plate 200+ miles from Rochester. In my head, I said to myself, there are plates in Rochester that don't even impress; why should I give the time of day to someone so far removed? It took me over two years to finally pull trig. In retrospect, I am kicking myself. Portions aside, the plate here is absolutely fantastic, like wtf. The meat sauce seems to keep the obligatory warmth of nutmeg and cinnamon, but has a delicate spice that absolutely delights in its own way. The mac salad lights up my tongue with the zest of celery and the home fries give me the crunch that I deserve. The burgers are the greasy vessel that I have come to expect, but offer much more cohesion than a typical plate. I am barely exaggerating when I say this might be Top 2 plates of my lifetime. Couple that with an awesome atmosphere and an amazing happy hour and you've got gold. Thank you guys for scratching my itch.

A great bar with great service and great food. I had a great time there. It was my first time in Albany. Had a blast drinking and talking with locals. I can usually handle my liquor but I really over did it. I completely blacked out drinking with strangers and woke up in my hotel room and not tied up in someone’s basement which is a huge plus. Hopefully they let me in next time I visit. I highly recommend this place. Becka is an incredible bartender!

This is a great hidden gem in downtown Albany! They have a NYS theme, so they have a wide selection of NYS craft beers, as well as regional NY food specialties like Beef on Weck, Spiedies, Reubens, and of course Steamed Hams (IYKYK). They have a full bar of NYS craft liquor as well, I recommend the Rough Rider Happy Warrior cask strength bourbon, or the 1911 apple vodka makes a great vodka tonic. Their wings are the best in Albany, always big and crispy. Atmosphere is laid back, with live music or other entertainment scheduled regularly. Check it out!
