Masalawala & Sons Reviews
We’ve been a few times, Masalawala and Sons is a really good Indian restaurant. They have a lot of great dishes executed well, the butter chicken, saag paneer, and chennar dalna were all very tasty. Their bread selection is outstanding. Also, they do really nice cocktails. Everything we ate from the menu was great. My problems with Masalawala are two things. Nice ambience with tasty, authentic Indian dishes. However, our server was a bit unprofessional, making us feel rushed rather than welcomed and relaxed.
amazing food! absolutely loved it. we got the chili chicken, dal makhani, and butter chicken with paratha and rice. the chili chicken was VERY spicy to us because of the ginger but was honestly the most fun i’ve had with food in a while. the other dishes were also perfection. our server, Niryand, and the host provided great service. 10/10, would recommend and will certainly be returning.

Masalawala & Sons offers a delightful culinary adventure with authentic Bengali dishes and unique flavors in their thali, including cottage cheese dumplings, fries, and luchi. The top-notch service from friendly and attentive staff, including knowledgeable servers and hospitable management, enhances the dining experience. It is considered one of the best Indian restaurants in NYC, known for its fantastic brunch and dinner options. The restaurant's vibrant decor in shades of orange, blue, and hot pink creates a festive atmosphere both inside and in the outdoor backyard patio seating. Customers appreciate the authentic Bengali dishes, such as the Biyebarir Fish Fry, a wedding-style batter-fried Barramundi with Kasaundi, and the Macher Dim. The staff is kind and patient, answering questions about menu items. The bar area adds to the lively ambiance, and both indoor and outdoor dining options are available. Walk-ins are seated in the outdoor area unless there is an indoor reservation cancellation. Recent visitors have praised the meal quality, highlighting appetizers like Biyebarir Fish Fry and Aloo Chaat, both spicy and flavorful. The entrees, such as prawn malai kari and kosha mangshu, are highly recommended and worth returning for. Some dishes like Phuchka and Chili Chicken can be quite spicy, but most dishes are close to authentic flavors, reminiscent of Kolkata cuisine. Overall, Masalawala & Sons is a vibrant spot for Indian and Bengali cuisine, providing a memorable dining experience despite occasional delays in service.
