I really like Mitchell's, I'm really sorry that l didn't know about this place sooner. I used to go to church in the neighborhood when The Brooklyn Tabernacle was at Flatbush and 7th Avenue but l just have to be glad that l know it now. The food is good, my favorite is smothered chicken with rice and gravy and collards, cabbage and mac and cheese. They even have stuffing if you get there before they run out. Hole in the wall serving tasty soul food. Fish and chicken plates were both excellent, as were the sides. Peach cobbler had a little too much nutmeg for my taste. Great prices and portion size
This landmark 40 year old resturant is a true treasure. The owner and staff are warm and welcoming, the place is cosy and spotless, the food is the real deal and the walls are covered in good advice. You can NOT beat their fried chicken, fish, turkey, mac and cheese, collard greens, and black eyed peas... it's all amazing. Leave room for the homemade cakes if you can. Please don't ever change Mitchell's!
