Welcome Home is a strong addition to the bakery scene in NYC. This small bakery offers some of the best pastries, with classic items featuring small but tasteful twists. The blueberry danish is a standout, served warm with a pillowy, enriched brioche texture similar to a Hawaiian roll, and a stunning fruit component with natural-tasting blueberries and a crumble for textural contrast. The olive oil cake has a beautiful moist texture with a razor-thin crust and a clear, lightly fruity olive oil taste. The croissant is perfect, and the baguette and pain au chocolat are the best some have had in New York, meeting true French bakery standards. Their sandwiches, like the Turkey, are also amazing. While the cardamom bun received mixed reviews, the cardamom roll is a favorite for some, perfectly spiced and sweet. The cinnamon roll is highly praised for maximizing gooeyness while maintaining structure. The staff are very welcoming and efficient, with a strong commitment to fair labor practices. A note that the bakery is very popular and may run out and close early, and the drink menu is limited.
