Pizza is only available with a cauliflower crust, which is a little like having pizza on a tasteless cracker. Shrimp was tough. Music was unpleasant. Server left the order slip on the plate under the shrimp. Location is convenient, but clearly the staff just doesn’t care.

Service was inexplicably slow. Literally. After sitting at a table for 10 minutes, noting 3-5 empty tables and 2-3 servers, we asked a passing server if she was handling this table. “Um, I don’t think so,” she replied. “But I’ll check.”Another server popped up and said, “Sorry about that.” That was her explanation. She took drink and app orders. 10-15 minutes went by. The apps came before the drinks. Why does it take 15 minutes to serve a drink on their menu in a 1/3 empty restaurant? The food is fine. Apps, salad and shrimp n grits were good. Salmon was dry despite my friend asking for it “medium rare.” Pizza was meh on a cracker-type crust with thin toppings and lotsa arugula.Nice to see a menu with classic cocktails as well as their own concoctions. Service needs major training and a serious upgrade.

We had appetizers, house cocktails, wine and mains here and they were all delish. I had the shrimp and grits - shrimp tasted fresh, grits were cooked well and sauce had fresh mushrooms. Food came fast and hostesses & waitstaff were kind, attentive and on top of it! For those complaining (myself included) that there is a dearth of good dining options in the institution try Intermezzo. It has been long overlooked which is a great shame. Go here and you won’t regret it!

We just had a phenomenal dinner at Intermezzo and we could not be more pleased. The service was the best we have experienced in Chautauqua ( and outside of CHQ). The specialty cocktails were all delicious and well crafted. We had an appetizer of tuna tacos that was huge and flavorful. One of us had the shrimp “cargots “ (also a app)which was accompanied by two huge slabs of bread for dipping. Two of us had the shrimp and grits which was divine. One person had the buratta on focaccia and it rocked. I had the pizza of marinara, truffle oil, mushrooms and cheese which melted in my mouth and it had cauliflower crust that was the best I have had. The wines were also great. To top it all off, it was comparatively inexpensive to other places on the ground. Totally worth a visit.

We just ate dinner at Intermezzo and it was one of the best dining experiences I have had all year. First of all, the service was excellent. Everything from drinks to appetizers to entrees came promptly and everything was delicious. The specialty drinks were creative and tasty (and strong). The appetizers included a tuna nacho dish, a shrimp "cargots"which included two huge pieces of bread, and burratta to die for. My entree was the cauliflower crust pizza with marinara, cheese, mushrooms and truffle oil. It was divine. The wines were also great. And to top it all off, everything was reasonably priced!!! I cannot praise this place enough. It is truly worth a visit, and I think after your first visit, you will come back again and again.

We had a reservation for our wedding anniversary but when we arrived they refused to seat us outside, even though they had tables open outside. They said there are too many bugs. There were no bugs. Covid, however, is still killing people and their clientele is overwhelmingly senior citizens who are the most at-risk.I understand that a lot of people want to stick their heads in the sand and pretend the pandemic is over, but it's not unreasonable to expect to be able to sit outside at a restaurant that has outdoor seating. Some of us are still paying attention to the science.

Unfortunately there aren't any MINUS star ratings!! On July 20, 2022 my wife and I had a TERRIBLE experience at the Intermezzo restaurant in the Chautauqua Institution in New York. We decided to try this restaurant. A mistake! For starters, my wife, who has Alzheimers disease and requires a special diet, wanted a salad with some added chicken. But, I have NEVER heard of a restaurant which does NOT have chicken!! Really? But that was the case! So, my wife who is on a very restrictive diet, and I asked if there was any other protein meat that could be added to the salad, and salmon was mentioned, so she agreed. Mind you, this is not uncommon to have some meat added to a basic salad for a slight extra charge. So after we ate and we got the bill, I found that the restaurant had charged an additional THIRTY ONE DOLLARS more for the few pieces of Salmon that were added. Mind you, the waitress had said NOTHING beforehand about there being a big extra charge for the WHOLE salmon entree! If she HAD, we probably would have skipped the Salmon. I complained to the waitress, and she sent the manager/owner out, whichever he was. He was very stubborn about INSISTING that the WHOLE SALMON ENTREE had to be charged, so that BOTH the salad and the complete Salmon entree was on the bill! I thought this was VERY UNFAIR!! But the manager/owner would not budge one bit to make any sort of compensation for the gross overcharge! I was very upset that a restaurant manager/owner was UNWILLING to please a customer in some way!! I believe the restaurant offers senior citizen discounts. BUT the manage/owner never even mentioned THIS as compensation either!! Is that the way he treats his customers? No wonder there weren't many people in the restaurant! Beware of this restaurant if you want to have any special change in a listed dish!! A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH THE RESTAURANT AND A RECALCITRANT MANAGER/OWNER!!!

Newest entrant to the admitttedly limited food options at Chatauqua but in my humble opinion the best thus far in terms of quality and adventuresness. Had baked goat cheese & fig jam+ burrata toast as appetizers; a margherita pizza, seared tuna and beef on weck (classic local dish) all v good, finished off with an excellent key lime pie with the right amount of tang mixed with a nutty crust. Was told tbis is their first full season-- worth checking out.
