“Really cool little "hole in the wall" type place. I was on my way home to Buffalo from a work trip in Vermont and my maps took me thru the Adirondacks to get to the 90 in Syracuse. So it was really cool to find this place basically in the middle of the woods (from my perspective lol). The people were incredibly kind and the food was great. They treated me like a regular as soon as I walked in despite being a complete stranger. TBH it is very small and a tiny bit run down, but the location and the PEOPLE more than make up for it. If you're driving down NY8 and need a place to stop for a drink or a bite, these guys got you covered!!!!!”

“Rustic family style atmosphere and great food with huge portions!! Nestled in the Adirondack Park, you get a nice view of nature and great fresh made food. The prime rib was melt in my mouth and companion had the garbage plate. Both were huge and meant lots of leftovers. The sweet pickles and bread are a nice starter. I asked for fruity wine and the server picked an awesome pineapple flavored one. Dinner was $65 and finding such good reasonably priced food and wonderful service is rare.”

“Tonight was my first time there. It was really crowded but there were several bartenders so the service was quick and friendly. Don't know if they have food. Prices match other local taverns. The crowd was quite young. I'm almost 50, so they were mostly in their 20s.”

“This place is fabulous, the customer service goes beyond reproach. The Alamo bar and grill is a must do place, the folks there put a lot of care in what they do, from the waitresses and waiters all the way to the kitchen, staff and cooks that should be called chefs. There’s a lot of passion and love that goes into every dish that leaves the kitchen. For me is home way from home! Oh yes, don’t forget to ask how them the history behind naming the place “Alamo bar & grill”, great story!”

“This was an unexpected highlight of a recenttripto the Adirondacks. Right off, I do prefer places that reflect the local flavor over places that try to reflect the tastes of other places. In other words, I appreciate authenticity. The Tavern on the Gorge boasted a friendly staff, good bar food and a welcoming atmosphere with a good assortment of beverage offerings. I happened to catch this place during a night whereby they had comedians from NYC. The comedians were very good and got plenty of laughs poking fun at the Afirondack lifestyles and values. The patrons appreciated this ribbing and a great night of unexpected fun was a much needed release for me and my wife. We will return on our next trip to the North Country to recapture this homespun experience.”

“A huge array of food options. A full bar. The server was very nice. Fairly busy for 10pm on a Thursday. But didn't have to wait to long for food/drinks. It was delicious! Very good portions, and reasonable prices. Will definitely go again and would recommend”

“Best buffet for a large group (150) I've had in many years. The place is a little out of the way but well worth the trip. The service people operate with precision so guests aren't tripping over each other.. There's a restaurant for individual dining also, and judging from the banquet food, I'm going back with my wife soon.”

“The sign with the food and ice cream is gone.They now have laminated menus in little holders.I really hope those get cleaned regularly!Standing in line and reading the big menu worked for us.I wouldn't order food if you are looking for quality and quantity.3 to 4 small tenders for almost $9.00 is way much! A burger for almost the same cost, hmm, no thanks.Ice cream has always been yummy!Never had a problem unless they ran out, but that is rare.Having young cashiers is sometimes a hit or a miss.If their friends show up, you have to ask them to hurry up!Dealing with cash only was annoying, but now they do have an ATM on site. That is nice.”
