A delicious 24 hour Chinese restaurant in the heart of Flushing, Queens. Ask any NYC Asian person where and what "big bowl" or "red bowl" is and they will immediately know what you're talking about. One of the highlights of a recent trip to New York, Red Bowl is getting 5 stars for its breakfast buffet (7:00AM to 11:00AM) and its shaved ice. comikg across Red Bowl by accident on a night wandering in Flushing, I made an impulse decision to stop and try the shaved ice. Sticking to more traditional toppings on the menu, you'll find items like kidney beans, mung beans and peanuts for toppings, along with tapioca, condensed milk and mixed jelly. This place was OK for a beer and some cold cucumbers with garlic as an after-dinner snack. But the fan xie chao dan (tomato and eggs), typically one of my favorite dishes, was actually inedible. Both the tomato and eggs had an odor that caused us to leave the whole dish practically untouched.
