My husband and I have used AFCU for as long as I can remember. We are based in NYC, so there are huge advantages: we can use the AFCU ATMs located in McDonald's all over the City charge-free and we can visit the office on 46th street any time to do our banking business in person with an actual human being. I have been with this bank for several years after using a traditional bank and having my identity stolen twice. I switched to a credit union to avoid this. Well I got my identity stolen again. This time tho unlike every other bank I have worked with in the past I have to PAY to use a notary to sign my fraud statement since I live in LA and there is only one branch office here and its too far to drive and then I have to snail mail it. For 2 months I have been calling and emailing the Lending department to assist me with an Escrow analysis and no one has returned my calls or emails. I find their office to be incredibly unorganized. Requests to have my property taxes paid bi-annually always turn into 3 different email requests/updates until I receive a reply. Their mortgage rates are unbeatable and their understanding of a 1099 based income are what keeps me here, but that's it.
