Having dinner and there's some kind of operatic recital happening in the corner. Gotta love NYC...

We had great cocktails here and there was a great atmosphere- just wish we had gotten to see the cat Hamlet, maybe he was sleeping! I had the French 75, loved that cocktail.

The espresso martini will waken the Dorothy Parker in you.
The cocktails are good but the literary history is gone. I knew the Algonquin through the eyes of William Shawn and Roger Angyll and E.B. White. The blue bar is not the bar where their wit was ginned.
Drinks were awful, something you’d get for free off a bar in Malaga. Such a shame, heard this used to be an iconic venue. Wildly expensive too.

My girlfriend and I had two cocktails called, The Algonquin and Vicious Wit. Both were the worst we had ever had - tasted like a cross between toilet cleaner and a free drink you’d get from a rogue bar in Thailand. Couldn’t even finish them. Had to pay $61 for the pleasure. FYI. Gratuity is included but they also present you (twice) with an additional box to add more. Ambience was also terrible - looked very tacky and the acoustics meant a conversation was impossible.

We had no reservations and three other places had closed for private events, so we were happy to find Blue Bar open and we were lucky to find a table without waiting -- it was filling up fast on an afternoon in early December ? the drinks were good and the atmosphere was great -- vibrant yet not loud! Too bad it wasn't quite blue ? I guess it only would turn blue later at night. (Only had drinks, so, I'm not rating "food" -- is that correct ?)

Not as memorable an atmosphere as before the renovation, but the food and service are fine.

Let’s first start with…this Blue Bar in the Algonquin Hotel is a shell of its former self as it’s no longer the dark, quaint bar of yesteryear. With that aside, it was the service at the bar which was shocking. I ordered a vodka martini with olives…first, they do not have proper martini glasses…they are served in small coupe style glasses ..,ok, not a deal breaker. What was truly shocking and petty is my drink was mixed and poured in front of me…when the bartender realized the olives wouldn’t fit in the glass, he emptied out a third of my drink into a separate glass. When I asked for the rest of my drink , he refused and said that’s how we pour it here. I have never seen that type of petty unprofessional service, especially when paying $22+ for a drink. Save yourself the headache and embarrassment and head elsewhere for good bar service.

Went to iconic Blue Bar at the Algonquin last Thurs. evening after seeing Some Like It Hot at the Shubert. The Bar was decorated for the holidays. We were able to get a table at 10:00, just as the kitchen closed. Had to wrangle some service as it was very busy. My wife loved her old fashioned. Historic setting to have cocktails with old friends.co.fortable seating.

Push for Service was really a blast. I think this idea is so good. Print once and someone comes by because a light comes on. Like Café Keese used to be in Hamburg. The quality of the burger was delicious. The service is TOP. The whole hotel is great. Old New Yorkers meet here from 3 p.m. to have a chat. I thought it was great. I always eat there when I'm in NY. The hotel only if the price is right. And a tip, please leave the cat alone.
