Going to miss this place A LOT. - Closing end of this month, on Sept. 29th. Love, love this restaurant. Hands down, the best kaiseki & best Japanese restaurant in NYC. Hoping Chef Yamada stays in NYC and opens another restaurant. Going to come couple more times before they close.......still in a state of shock. : 10 tears

Delicious creative Japanese food. Tons of non sushi options. We did not do the kaiseiki (prix fixe) menu although it looked delicious. We did the a la carte menu and loved the charcoal grilled king salmon and the pork belly ramen entrees. The grilled king salmon was perfectly marinated and cooked to soft textured perfection. The pork belly was melt in your mouth, fatty and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The trout and soft shell crab futo Maki was just ok. We also got the uni, toro, lobster, Ikura, chirasushu Gohan to share amongst the 4 diners which worked out well when we saved it for the last course. The Hojicha pudding was good and the creamy creme bulee was even better. The custard was thick and particular creamy. Yum!

Brushstroke was an absolutely incredible dining experience. If you're planning on going, recognize that while the prices are definitely crazy high, that it'll be worth it for the equally high quality food you'll have. We went for the seasonal 5-course menu with adds on of one Chef selection sashimi and a wagyu sirloin (extra $40). Each portion is quite small, but was absolutely delicious, especially the sashimi, which was one of the best we've had. What you might see as the main and larger course (wagyu, ramen, duck) is laughably small. The ramen looks like it's for a doll and the wagyu consists of three small pieces of meat. That being said, the wagyu is probably the best, juiciest, most tender piece of meat I've ever eaten, and is definitely worth it for a one time experience. Because we were celebrating both of my parents' birthdays, I called ahead to ask if they could bring out a little something at the end of the dinner. They were very sweet and brought not one but two desserts out, complete with lit candles for my parents. Brushstroke has great service, food, and ambiance, and I'd highly recommend it for a special occasion dinner!

The most delicious sushi and non sushi pre fix menu! We order the expensive pre fix menu and it was amazing! The Lobster Chawan-mushi was the star of all 8 courses!

Stylish presentation and beautiful food. Creative and artsy, good staff, good sushi. It's different from traditional sushi and it isn't super fusion, but I would recommend it for a different experience!

An oasis of peace in downtown The service is kind and gentle. The food is refined and unique. We had the Kaiseki menu. What a beautiful way to spend a Monday evening.

I dropped by Brushstoke's Noodle Bar for dinner. The staff was friendly and welcoming. It was definitely a date-night location with dim lighting and low music. It's also great for groups. The food was amazing. I had the Wagyu Bun and their signature ramen. I wish I ordered two buns because it tasted so good with a spicy kick. The ramen was nice and had thick pork slices. If you are looking for a modern ramen shop, this is the place for you. So ENJOY!!

I am a huge fan of Brushstroke - they can do no (culinary) wrong my opinion. The restaurant opened the noodle bar a few months ago, located in a small area by the right side of the entrance of the restaurant. As a ramen foodie, I suggested Brushstroke after an hair appointment in TriBeca with my girlfriend. They only take walk-in only. The interior was quaint and dark by the noodle bar - We sat at a large communal table with other diners and I asked for another candle for our side of the table. I didn't particularly mind if they wanted to eavesdrop in our conversation - be my guest. The diners seated at our table were visibly amused at our mockery (see photo) of the tiny edamame appetizer and my Oprah exchange with my girlfriend. The noodles and pork were delicious albeit the broth was too salty. My girlfriend and I laughed at how ridiculously tiny the "appetizer" was for $5. I like my noodles a bit thicker and more wavy. Not a big deal just a personal preference. I will come back for the tasting at the main restaurant but not sure if the ramen would be worth the trip.

Sadly even with the management change, not much will change. Continuously neglected requests and poor customer service. Sent numerous emails for the course of a few months- was assured that the situation would rectify. Was told by the "manager" who seems to have no hospitality experience/ fine dining experience and an impersonal tone with a language barrier... that nothing can be done. Hello- Ive had repeated calls and emails, which fell on deaf ears. If you think overcharging your customer, and not providing them food (which they informed your servers 3x they could it have while placing the orders) calls for a revisit- I think maybe you should check the surrounding competition. It's ok you don't need my business- we just ate there every third month, took Friends and family there, but no worries you can sustain yourself. Personally wish they were better about this as it's one of my fav restaurants- but on principle I refuse to revisit

Absolute perfection. An experience of Japan while in New York. For the quality you are getting, the prices are quite reasonable. We went for lunch and ordered the sashimi, oysters, and nigiri sushi box. Everything from the presentation, to the texture of the ingredients, to the taste of the sauces, to the service was sublime. Highly recommend!

Great food and the service is exceptional! Highly recommend. I returned for the special Valentine's day menu, which is not their regular menu BTW, and it did not disappoint. The ramen course was one of the best and gave you a taste of what you might find at their new noodle bar. Really do recommend. I have to point out that since it was a special menu, it was more expensive than their regular menu, but the quality was the same. Really enjoyed, I know you will too.

Had a valentine dinner which was 195 per person, total came out to be 560 including tip. Food was ok but grossly over priced. Our final dish was ramen which was without a doubt one of worst ramen I had, instant ramen had better flavor. Lets be real in NY you can have much MUCH better meal for half the price. Please avoid.

I mean... I wish I can use more words to describe this restaurant but honestly, if you love sushi, and you love umami flavored items, you MUST come here. The service was so top notch I literally felt like 20% tip was not enough! We ordered the kaiseki. Lord... amazing just absolutely amazing. blows my mind the kind of innovative ideas and images that the chefs have with these small plates. I enjoyed every last bit of it. You definitely fill up at the end.

Brushstroke is a Japanese restaurant whose specialty is Kaiseki * cuisine. A virgin of Kaiseki cuisine, I was giddy with excitement when my husband announced that he had made a reservation there for my upcoming birthday . Furthermore , I had read SOOO MUCH about the restaurant on the online blogosphere with many foodies extolling it's many virtues. Finally ... the day had arrived. (Drumroll) We arrived 15 minutes early to our reservation and were met by a rather amicable waiter still adjusting his neck tie. In due time we were seated by the bar right in front of the head chef. The dining room was simply decorated though there was a spectacular floral arrangement right in the corner of the bar . We ordered the Kaiseki prixe fixe and were not disappointed ! Each plate of food was a masterpiece and crafted with such exquisite detail that I was often hesitant to mar the works of art with the brute stab of my fork. We slowly savored each bite which was masterfully composed, balanced in flavor and delicious! Every course was better than the next. In true Kaiseki tradition, we were served an appetizer, a simmered dish, a sashimi course, rice dish, grilled dish , dish reflecting the season and lightly sweetened dessert. Our favorite of the evening being the fresh sashimi and delectable finale to the meal - the Citrus sorbet . We left Brushstroke that night feeling like we had been to a masterful theatre show . Our senses and tastebuds thoroughly overwhelmed and our spirits lifted after such an amazing unforgettable experience. * Kaiseki refers to a traditional Japanese multi course meal which is meticulously prepared and exquisitely served. Mainly to provide the guest with a feeling of respect and enjoyment.

They opened up a noodle bar (a separate but attached dining area) to the right when you enter. There's bar seating and one communal table that seats ~6. I love Brushstroke because of their creative flavor combinations and artful balancing. The tonkatsu ramen met my expectations in this regard. We also had the scallops and mushroom dumpling appetizer, and it was buttery and rich, with a pronounced scallop taste at the end. It's a meal that's decadent enough to feel satisfied without eating a lot, but not so heavy to make you feel gross afterwards. A+!
