Chiu Hong Bakery is a hidden gem in Chinatown, serving delicious mochi at unbeatable prices. The peanut and red bean flavors are a hit, and the braided bread is light and fluffy. The staff is kind and generous, offering free treats like egg tarts. While the egg tarts have a hard crust, the custard filling is delicious. With over 40 years in business, this bakery offers high-quality baked goods like pineapple buns and egg tarts. Favorites for Chinese New Year include the peanut lo mai chi, Napoleon, and peanut puff pastry. Chiu Hong Bakery is a no-frills establishment with a rich history, deserving of support from the community. Chiu Hong is likely one of the oldest Cantonese bakeries in Chinatown, and the last of its kind. The interior is old-school, with worn-out furnishings and that no-frills, local charm you don’t see much anymore. They offer a variety of traditional Cantonese pastries, like almond cookies, fortune cakes, and red bean paste pastries. But they’re best known for their peanut and red bean mochi, which costs just $1.50 for two. The coconut tart is crumbly and buttery, while the filling is slightly chewy. It’s always topped with a canned cherry, which gives it that iconic look. Chiu Hong Bakery is an old time Cantonese bakery in Chinatown, one of the last of its kind. It's a low-key, no-frills community shop that's been in the area for over four decades. Here you can buy a bunch of buns and mochi balls for only $1.50 each. The prices at this old school bakery are considerably low. They sell perhaps the best mochi balls in NYC! You can choose between red bean or peanut mochi balls, two for $1.50. They’re soft, gooey, chewy, fresh, and not too sweet. The peanut mochi balls have crunchy peanuts with sugar, the outer layer has shredded coconut, and the mochi part is very soft, chewy, and stretchy. This old school bakery has very low prices and they sell pineapple buns, char siu buns and egg tarts - very delicious! They are now a go-to bakery.
