The minute we walked in, we all felt like we were in a much better mood, not sure why, they were just so inviting even though we were a little late for our reservation. (We did call in advance to let them know we would be). Our server was simply the loveliest person, so inviting and helpful. We had someone in our party with several allergies and we went over the menu and discussed what would be acceptable to order and she even made an off menu suggestion to accommodate us. Food was just phenomenal, we had the garlic bread, the asparagus, the meatballs, the pasta ragu, a cacio e pepe pasta was made for us since our party could not have the other pasta dish with pesto, and we had the fish. Everything was delicious! Towards the end of the meal, the person with the allergy issues started feeling itchy and had to leave. We went over and over the food items, our server was clearly mortified and was likely more upset than anyone in our party. She went back over the menu with the chef and confirmed that everything we ordered was free of our known allergens. While we do not know what caused the reaction, the restaurant's handling of this situation was 1000% on point. No one in our group had any ill will towards the establishment. (You'll want to know this person went home and to sleep and is perfectly fine, still no idea what caused the reaction, though) I would absolutely return to this restaurant!

Wonderful, cozy place! Great drinks (please forgive me, I do not remember what I had) and great pork chops! Seriously, probably the best pork chops I've had... ever! The bartender was super nice as well :) 4 stars only because we were at the bar and I didn't get a "full" restaurant experience.

My friends and I went to Hearth for their restaurant week special, and unfortunately, did not enjoy our experience. The food was okay - nothing special or extraordinary. The waiter was mostly helpful in walking us through the menu but the staff seemed generally rude and annoyed by our party. Unfortunate experience :(

I went with my friends for restaurant week and I will not be coming back. The staff were honesty quite rude and the portions were quite small. My friend got the meatballs and they her whole dinner was two meatballs and about 1/4 of a cup of polenta (if she was lucky). The food wasn't bad but it the environment from staff was not great!

Came to Hearth for a late brunch on a lazy sunday, and it definitely helped to wake us up. The food was overall very delicious and the staff were very professional. I am now also very interested in trying out their dinner menu on another occassion because it looks amazing too. Shoutout to the olive oil cake, which was a surprisingly refreshing but very scrumptious dessert!

We arrived a bit early for brunch and had a drink at the bar - the bartender was very attentive and friendly, even sharing a taste of an Italian amaro that was a component to one of the drinks on the menu when he heard us discussing it. Once at our table, we started with the pear and pecorino salad with chicory. I have to say the salad and dressing tasted great, but there were virtually no pears whatsoever (I found a micro piece of pear peel) and the chicory had been replaced entirely with radicchio. It would have been nice to be told that the ingredients had been changed. For our main course, I had the muffaletta, which was a muffaletta only in name. There was virtually no olive spread - the essential ingredient of a muffaletta - which had been replaced by a ton of cabbage and red onion. Again, it wasn't horrible, just not what was advertised. The menu says "olive" which suggests a typical muffaletta and "slaw" which suggests something on the side, but I found only a few tiny bits of olive in what should have been the olive spread. If it was a riff on a real New Orleans muffaletta, it failed. There was another sandwich on the menu called "The Sandwich that Made Me Cry" but the poor imitation of a muffaletta that I had should probably get that name. My wife got the Fabio's Famous Tomato and Egg. She liked the sauce very much, but it was only egg yolks. What happened to the whites? Two runny yolks and tomato sauce with some bread is not really a meal. Last but not least, we ordered a bottle of white Burgundy to go with our brunch (which was after 1 pm). Not one but two servers commented sarcastically about having a bottle of wine (a more recent year than what was advertised in the menu but charged the same price) for "breakfast." Don't need the judgment, thanks, and if you don't want people drinking wine at brunch then don't offer the menu. Overall, just "ok" and in a city full of great brunch places, that is no reason to come back.

We came here for a friend's birthday. The place has a nice ambience for a Friday night. Dimly lit but very nice for a date night or a dinner out with friends. The food is expensive for the portion size and taste, so for that reason, I give this place a 3-star review. Here's what we shared: - Garlic bread - $12 (very small piece for 4 people, not garlicky at all!) - Winter squash - $24 (stracciatella, pear butter, hazelnuts - delicious) What we each ate as entrees: - Berkshire pork chop - $42 (apple mostarda, onion, greens) - good but not worth the price. Maybe worth $25 - maccheroni - $29 (pork ragu, ricotta, rosemary) - a friend had this, not good - fish - it was branzino that night - $36 (beans, greens, garlic) - a friend had this and said this was good Drinks were tasty. The service was great. But the value of the dinner was not worth it. All in all, I would not return.

Solid meh. I hadn't eaten there in years and decided to try it again. The best thing I ate was the carrot app. I resent paying $8 for 5 slices of bland bread that didn't arrive until after the apps. Service was inattentive and slow. It took a solid 3/4 hour for the mains to arrive and while they were tasty, they were heavy. Others here complain about 2 meatballs, but I couldn't have eaten a third. Buckwheat pasta was good at first but got cloying quickly. Desserts were fine. The bill, with tip and three glasses of wine, was $325 for four people. I'd happily pay that for a fine meal, but this wasn't one.

I've eaten here many many times over the years and love it. The seasonal choices are usually great, and they have an excellent wine selection. It's a frequent pick for my wife's birthday!!

We ate here during restaurant week and made our choices based on the restaurant week menu. Well lets just say that the portion sizes were cut short like reallly small plates. One item i ordered was the meatball with polenta as the main and i received two meatballs in a tiny tiny smear of polenta. Now polenta is probably one of the cheapest foods to buy/make why throw in .10 cents worth of polenta smear on the plate?!? The deserts were very forgetfull and amateur. I read a previous review also complaining on the meatball portion size and the order was from the full menu so if that was small i kid you not this was a spoon of polenta smeared on a tiny plate with two meatballs on top. The overall bill was very high for the food that we received. Too bad i think restaurant week should be an opportunity for restaurants to get new customers but in this case i definetly wont be returning. The only think i liked was the ambience and the dark dining room. Service was also not excellent items were forgotten and also the staff were dressed to hipsterish and that didnt go well with the classic decor. I wish owners could read the negative reviews to make changes and most negative reviews mention the portion sizes; the main entrees are like appetizers in size.

Didn't try food, just drinks. That said, the bartender was extremely knowledgeable, mixed a very interesting and tasty negroni bianco, and was overall a great host to us. Prices a little bit steeper than average but I'd come here for dinner.

Came here today for their Christmas Feast of the Seven Fishes Dinner. Overall this was a disappointing experience. The room is nice and comfortable no issues there. We started with drinks and after only a few minutes we were served the BACCALA MANTECATO and shortly thereafter the soup and calamari salad , as well as the first of our wines from the wine tasting we had ordered. To not have given us some time to enjoy our cocktails is really an major error in my opinion. The whole point of cocktails is to ease into the meal , having wine served when we had barely touched our drinks is simply wrong. The baccala was good we enjoyed it. The soup with the salad served at the same time again made the course feel like we were being rushed. The soup was fine as were the shrimp but the calamari salad was mostly salad and barely any calamari and what was there was a few very very small pieces, a disappointment. For the main course the risotto with clams was again ok but ordinary and not as creamy as one would expect a risotto to be. The second main course CACCIUCCO LIVORNESE was really the highlight of the meal and that course ordered alone with wine would have made a better experience. The mix of seafood was well made and all the components melded well together. Dessert was enjoyable but not exceptional . The wine tastings were fun and a nice varied selection of wines were offered. Our server was pleasant and we enjoyed talking with her. I would not recommend this special dinner offering as there were too many inconsistencies in the initial meal timing and for the price point the courses were not all up to the level I expected. If you are going to offer a special occasion meal then it needs to be special in all its aspects. Unfortunately for me and my fellow diners this experience fell short of the mark.

I'd give this place a 3.5, so rounding up. The food is fine, but a bit forgettable--I had the buckwheat pancakes and they had a generous portion. I preferred the sour dough and toast option personally. Not a bad spot if you like bloodys and very cozy ambiance. But would I come back? Probably not.

Such a lovely, beautiful, well-appointed restaurant in the East Village. While visiting my in-laws in New York, they took us to their favorite restaurant in the city, Hearth. We had previously visited Hearth on the High Line in 2022 during the summer, but had never been to the brick and mortar original location. We were delighted by Eric at the bar, as he took our preferences for cocktails to heart and created some delicious drinks for each of us. Mine was a twist on a white Negroni, and it was incredible. For dinner, we tried a bit of everything. The sourdough and butter is an amazing starter, as is the chicken liver pate and anchovies. We enjoyed all starters thoroughly! For dinner, my husband and I split the maccheroni with pork and rosemary, the quail and farro, and the roasted autumn squash with hazelnuts. Everything was amazing, but I really loved the pasta - how could you not? We also split some duck fat potatoes (the side for the variety burger, which we did not order, but I want to try someday), as well as the smoked mackerel, and all items were incredibly yummy. Dinner was paired with a lovely chilled red wine, which was a recommendation based on our collective orders. The bill was high, but worth it, based on the excellent service, fresh ingredients, and beautiful space. I hope to return when we visit New York in the future!

What a cute, cozy place. I also love their focus on using quality ingredients. They use olive oil and grass fed butter, the fish is wild, the meat is grass fed. It's hard to find a restaurant that has all of this in mind when preparing food and maintain such a commitment to using quality ingredients rather than inexpensive ones. Food: The autumn squash was excellent and full of flavor. The wild striped bass was cooked perfectly. I was intrigued by the butternut squash brulee, which was so good. What a unique combination, I really enjoyed it.Definitely plan to come back.
