Hiramasa is a restaurant that opened its doors in the fall of 2021, located on the corner of Madison and East 93rd Street. The restaurant specializes in traditional sushi, with a sushi bar that allows customers to see the craft of the sushi master. The interior of the restaurant is beautifully designed with pale wood-lined walls, black marble tiled floors, and relaxing music, giving the feeling of entering a jewelry box. The seating is limited, with a sushi bar that seats 9 at ground level, 3 cafe tables, and another sushi bar that seats 6 in an upstairs loft.
The food served at Hiramasa is delicious, with high-quality fish. The salmon hand roll and eel roll were particularly enjoyed, although it is recommended to stick to traditional sushi to fully enjoy the quality of the fish served. The yuzu avocado salad, miso soup, and wine were also praised. However, the service, while patient and attentive, lacked particular knowledge of sushi.
The ambiance of the restaurant is elegant, but the playlist was described as awkwardly loud and fast food-like, despite the interior design. The restaurant also offers curbside enclosure seating with cloth-lined tables, which may be preferred for large groups. Overall, Hiramasa is a great restaurant with delicious food and a beautiful interior, but the service and music could be improved.
