Not what it use to be! John's has been our NYC go to pizza spot since 2003. The building, a prior church, has a beautiful interior and the pizza was always flavorful with quick table service. It has become a tourist trap with average pizza and slow service. After waiting close to 45 minutes at noon for a table (expected since it is NYC at Christmas time), when we were finally seated they put us at a table next to the bathroom. Our first time at John's was a great experience. We were told we had a 40 minute wait on a Saturday night but 15 minutes later, we were seated in one of balconies with great views of the entire space and holiday decorations. Our server greeted us quickly and took our order. We had garlic rolls and margarita pizza. Everything was delicious and worth NY prices. We'd return
I went back after a few years to this place and I share a large Margherita pie: very good. I just don't like the basil because has a flavor of mint. But the food is very good and is not too expensive.
