KazuNori: The Original Hand Roll Bar

KazuNori is a fast, straightforward handroll spot. The concept is smart — fresh handrolls served immediately — but the execution felt more assembly line than artisanal.

The rolls felt a bit repetitive in flavor and texture. The rice was warm and well-seasoned, which is a plus. It’s good for a fast, casual sushi fix — just not the kind of place that leaves you craving a return visit.

Service was efficient but impersonal, which makes sense given the streamlined, counter-style setup. Still, a bit more warmth or engagement from the staff could have made the experience feel less transactional.

The atmosphere is clean and minimalist but crowded. It was hard to get into my seat with people left and right of me and no one seemed to want to make room for you. The seats were awkwardly high for a short person like me. It works well for a quick bite, but it’s not the kind of space where you’d want to linger.

I used to like this place a lot, but the service is horrible now and (less importantly) the food has decreased in quality a bit. The chef at the bar clearly was just trying to get me out as soon as possible, and the place wasn’t even packed. He also seemed to have contempt for me and other customers. I miss the old chefs.

Sushi here is very good. The atmosphere is not to my liking - extremely dark and cavernous. There are no seats when waiting for take out and the vibe is a bit pretentious. Pricey even for NYC. I recommend ordering out and enjoying at home.

Everything is great, fast and efficient service, they don't accept tips

MY FIRST AND LAST TIME!! They put me sit at the corner angle and let the white RUDE lady sit next to me. Dont you see that there was no space for two people to fit. So I had to move instead of her. The host did nothing. Just look at me struggling. The food was bland. I can make them at home too. The payment is so old school. Only CASH AND PHYSICAL CREDIT CARD. Wow we are entering 2025 such a shocked moment. They told me to go get cash or something and want to keep my belonging. I told them that i can zelle or venmo. They said no. Lucky enough i met my friend. THIS PLACE IS SUCK.

Waited 3 min on a sat night for 1 person (this is a walk in only spot), ill take it!

Got the salmon, squid, scallop & sea bream roll which were all tasty and fresh. The nori was SO crispy and perfectly made. The rice for the last two rolls were piping hot though as I suspect they just made a new batch. Still felt a little hungry so got a sashimi dish, albacore. The fish literally tasted like mouldy mush and was drenched in this mango (??) vinegar sauce which was :/….

Overall I think I’d back again if I needed a last minute walk in reservation but I’ll know what to get/not get new time !!

Most of the rolls already have flavor without soysauce. Good quality given the price, but next time I'll ask for less rice as you can barely taste the chopped fish for toro and salmon rolls. Shrimp is my favorite. Crab is also good. Lobster does not worth the extra price -- what's the point of having finely grinded lobster?

Staff are so rude😂 The food is fine, not great. I don’t like when hand rolls have 90% rice and a dab of the fish. Bar stools are fixed in place, which I find very uncomfortable.

Takeout was a joke. I couldn’t believe how little the food portion was, and how flavorless. I’m hugely into sushi and have had hand rolls before, I thought I’d try this place out. I also found the people inside to be weirdly pretentious. Definitely not returning.(imaged: two hand rolls- spicy tuna and mushroom)

Good handroll bar. Very good deals on price but not the highest of quality food. Overall good but chefs don't seem very experienced and fish falls out of bottom when eating the roll. Atmosphere is very corporate and the service is just okay. Waiters are slow and i got served after someone else who sat down after me.

It's a cheap, fast and delicious restaurant.
I think this is the perfect restaurant when you want a quick bite of sushi.
You can eat 6 rolls based on the nori roll set with several rolls to choose from!
The small squid wrapped in seaweed, which is only available on the individual menu, is the most delicious.
Highly recommended.

Went here because of the amazing reviews on google maps but I was a bit disappointed.

I went alone on Saturday night and arrived at around 6:15, and waited for about 40 mins to get seated. I ordered the 6 hand roll set which costs $38 ish including tax.

The taste of the seafood (fish, crab, lobster, scallop) in the handrolls were very faint, you could barely taste it unless you ate the seafood by itself. Even if you ate the handrolls without soy sauce you could barely taste the seafood. All the seafood except the scallops were mashed up as well. Having been the Japan multiple times these handrolls are certainly not the best and not worth the wait.

The service was however exceptional, the staff were incredibly nice and attentive. They always made sure water was refilled and offered more ginger if desired.

Food and atmosphere are absolutely great, the chefs however do seem a bit careless. More often than not the hand rolls are rolled very lightly and you have to go back and re-roll what you’re eating before you eat it.
