One of the absolutely best dessert shops in NYC! Authentic, incredibly flavorful home made Malaysian food. Every once in a while they also have savory dishes too, and they have special dishes to celebrate different moments of the year. Make sure to check out their weekly menu on instagram. Have been a fan for years and it only gets better!!

I live far away from here, and came here at 5:40, the Google map indicates it still opens until 6p.m, but they already closed at 5:40 ?

We randomly came across this cafe and wow we were amazed! Not only was the owner so sweet and welcoming, she made sure to make sure about any allergies before recommending some amazing sweets to us! Everything we tried was great and the packaging is just as cute. 10/10 will come back!

Small dessert shop, big flavor. I’ve been craving some good beef rendang and apam balik. I was in the area for the rendang and figured I’d stop by here. About a twenty minute line and the dessert of the week was Apam Balik (Malayan Pancake). Some days you just get lucky. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

I am Malaysian living in the USA went to kuih while i was in NYC took the train and the bus for some decent kuih sad to say the service was so bad the kuih was so overpriced and the kuih itself was such a letdown. So folks do not waste your time or money here and the place is god awful messy.

Tiny hole in the wall and you just have to be lucky to walk by when they are open for that small window. Finally got to try the pandan ube and black sesame cheesecake and they were excellent. A little different style to regular say NYC style or even Basque - it's a bit more wet inside. Overall, good flavor and would be curious to try their savory foods as well. 2024.01.12

I love that there are so many good places to get kuihs in the city and Kuih Cafe is definitely one of them. It's definitely a small spot - more a counter with a bakery-type case and maybe 3-4 seats against a small counter. My friends and I made it work because we wanted to eat the kuihs together right there and then and they were delicious. I also love the way they have kuih sets so you don't have to choose which ones to get (you can get them all!). My friends also loved the cheesecake they have.

We came when they opened and got a special kuih set after waiting in line for a bit. We got the kuih to go so we could share with our family and we were disappointed with the flavors. Granted, this is our first time trying kuih so it could just not be our thing in general, but everything tasted the same. They all had some coconut flavor and I was expecting them to be different flavors. There were no description on the box or in the store other than kuih. I could have asked but the staff didn't seem too friendly and it felt like we were holding up the line trying to look at the counter. The desserts were not too sweet so that was nice. Overall I'm not sure if I would go back.

I got a variety of desserts here a while ago after passing by randomly and they were all great - nice flavours without being overpowering or too sweet. I still think of going back even though I live nowhere near NYC.

Compact unassuming Malaysian spot for authentic dessert! I came looking for pan dan flavored goodies and got a pan dan mousse cake. However the pan dan flavor didn’t not stand out as it should. A little disappointed.

I grew up eating lots of Malaysian food and desserts so I was so glad to find this shop when I moved to NYC! It was Thanksgiving weekend so there weren't a lot of options left but I got myself a Kuih Set, which change from time to time. --Pulut Tai Tai - really reminded me of kuih salat with the bed of glutinous rice with a savory coconut flavor. The pandan cream was just enough for a sweet balance. I'm a huge sucker for sweet savory combos so I think this one won my heart! --Ubi Kayu - was a close second because of loved the QQ chewiness of the cassava! Loved how it was like a two hit bunch: first the strong coconut flakes then the subtle coconut flavors from the cake itself. --Panda Magic - also enjoyed this one because it had 3 different layers of pandan! Sponge cake on top and more traditional kuih at the bottom - talk about the textural contrast! The store itself was small and the owner was super sweet. Heard that she gave some extras to the customer in front of us. Wanted to try so many other things but wasn't in stock given the holidays. Some seating outside but everything is small and well packaged so you can take it to enjoy back home or elsewhere.

This is a tiny hole-in-a-wall place. However, it's fare is very good. It specializes in Malaysian desserts, kuih. Hence, the name of the place. They are in operation from Friday into the weekends. Not sure what happens during the rest of the week. Every week the fare is different. There'll be different kuih sets, some other knickknacks & a savory dish. You'll have to find out on Thursday night via IG to see what's up for the week. There are other standard offerings such as the variety of mini cheesecakes. Worth the while to explore every week.

Maybe I just caught them on an off-day, but given this place had been on my list to try for years, I was a bit disappointed by the offerings. Things certainly got off on the wrong foot when I discovered that they didn't have any kuih with pandan - choices were limited enough that we ended up getting the durian cheesecake, which is not something that would normally be near the top of my list. The durian cheesecake was, if not delicious, at least interesting. I can't say the same for the rather dry pineapple cake - nothing like the amazingly buttery Taiwanese pineapple cakes that I had in my mind when I ordered. I find Lady Wong's set up in the East Village a bit pretentious and certainly pricier, but I found myself there a few days later just to fill the pandan craving that went unsatisfied at Kuih Cafe.
