This place is my most favorite Japanese restaurant in New York City! Cant wait until Kyo ya reopens again!

Unfortunately, Kyo Ya may be shuttered for good because of COVID.. When we last dined here it was earlier in the year. Excellent Japanese kaiseki cuisine with fantastic sake selection.

Great place to celebrate an event. Two seats right in front of the chef

Its been a while since I have been there. It is sad to see their executive chef departs.

Everything was quite excellent. Despite 5 stars for food and service I gave it 4 stars overall because I thought the sushi omakase could have been enhanced with a few more prepared items and not be overwhelmingly sushi and sashimi

They have a good sake selection. But the food was not good, flavors were very bland. Restaurant was empty and they had no sushi and the server was pressing dishes so basically hinting this is what we have left and it was 730, which was rice clay pot that takes 45mins to make. This is a place that is selective on customers, and it’s just not worth it.

I came here the night before for dinner and I was quite happy with my experience! Our waiter was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was not so busy when my friend and I arrived. We ordered the Ohitashi, which was tasty and light, followed by the fried horse mackerel and Brussel sprouts as a following appetizer, which was lightly battered and fried. We then got the ebi balls, which was amazing as well. Miso soup was light and fragrant, but the real treat is the seasonal kamadaki with salmon, which we had to order early on so it could be prepared. For dessert, my friend and I settled on sharing hojicha ice cream, which was super strong and flavorful! Sake was also incredibly smooth and definitely a restaurant that left a lasting impression!

My wife and I happened soon this place tonight. No sign and a cool looking basement level restaurant intrigued us. But we couldn't believe what we found. Truly one of the best if not the best Japanese meals we've ever had. The Tempora sweet potato, hot soba noodle, rice bowel with tofu skin and the press roll salmon trout were all perfect. Truly. I can't wait to go back.

We had the sweet potato tempura and crab fried rice. The tempura was delightful, we wouldn't order the fried rice again it was tasty but very mild)

Kaisen don was good but the portion was small.

Their recent lost of star reminded me to post this review: Very very underwhelming dinner, I would've given it a 3/5 if this wasn't the place my bf took me to on our first date... Menu wasn't exciting, half of the place was empty on a Friday night... you could get a lot more with $150/person. I hope they can step up their game..

Fantastic Japanese kaiseki ryori style restaurant. Excellent sake collection as well. Service is impeccable and this is a terrific choice for a nice date night. Unfortunately, they may be closed for good due to the pandemic.

I came here for my birthday and had their omakase. It was delicious. The ingredients were fresh and some of the ways they transformed normal foods was pretty amazing. Highly recommend!
