The chocolate chip cookie meets the hype. It is buttery and perfectly chewy with the perfect crunch around the edges. Plus it’s also huge (in fact I feel like all cookies should be the size of your face). Definitely swing by to pick up a cookie or two. I also got their New York breakfast bagel, and it was quite good.

Lots of people doing take out but bar seating inside and tables outside.

Very freshly baked food, wonderful tasting. We tried the donuts, pastries, cookies, danishes, and coffee drinks.
They had delicious tasting breads (they had samples out of one, which was excellent), but we did not buy any.
We liked it so much we went back the next day.
Friendly staff, a bit of seating, really nice place to grab a quick snack or breakfast!

My son and I adore this place, my favorite are their rainbow cookies, I must plead that they bring back the white chocolate rainbow cookies again at some point, I dream of them in my sleep

Several other reviewers mentioned vegan cream cheese / tofu schmear, and vegan bakery items. As of my visit in September 2025, these items are not on the menu and were not available when I spoke with the staff. I attempted to order a bagel with no toppings and instead was given a bagel with dairy cream cheese. Vegans be warned!

Desserts and sweet treats were delicious, but those breakfast bagels are the most overpriced, mediocre breakfast bagels in the city.

Came in the AM today! Service from Crystal and Bri was phenomenal! Very nice and energetic as well as handing my order in timely fashion! Worth the price since the service on top of the AMAZING quality food is served with it 10/10 coming again!

When we are in the neighborhood we will always stop in. We are huge fans of their bread and specialty baked goods. We would also recommend the coffee. Well worth a look.

Living just a block away from Orwasher's Bakery on the Upper West Side, I'm a regular who pops in about twice a week, and the experience is a frustrating mix of admiration and disappointment. The quality of their baked goods is exceptional--crusty baguettes with a perfect chew, flaky almond croissants that melt in your mouth, and hearty rye and sourdough loaves that showcase their century-old craft. The ingredients are top-tier, and the flavors reflect the care put into each item. The bagels are quintessentially New York, with a crisp exterior and dense, chewy interior.

The glaring issue, though, is their inventory, or lack thereof. Like my friends in the neighborhood, I often leave empty-handed, even when visiting well before noon. It's maddening to hear that 80% of their stock, including staples like baguettes, are gone by 11 am. As a local who frequents the bakery, this isn't a one-off--it's a pattern thats getting progressively worse. How does a bakery run out of baguettes so early, especially when they're open until 6 pm? Its a failure to meet local demand.

Orwasher's quality is undeniable, but the consistent sell-outs make it unreliable for anyone who can't sprint over at opening. I'd love to see them scale up production or prioritize neighborhood regulars to match their stellar baking with better availability. Until then, it's a hit-or-miss experience. **2/5 stars**--the quality is there, but you would never know it since they're probably out of whatever you went in for.
