Coffee tasted burned, bad service, no wifi, no toilet.
We ordered iced vanilla lattes with oatmilk and a pain au chocolat. The lattes were smooth and well balanced but nothing notable or something I’d go out of my way for. The croissant was very average and standard of any cafe pastry, and there was barely any chocolate filling. The service was a little underwhelming but fine. Would come back again if I needed a coffee and was nearby

This place should get more good reviews. Best coffee in the area together with Birch. Best fresh pastries. Definitely recommend.

I walked in with my dog, and before even greeting me, they told me to leave and no dogs were allowed. I told them I totally understood Dogs couldn’t stay inside, but ask if I could order and then wait outside for my drink. They said no, and asked me to leave again. This is the only coffee shop in the entire upper West side this has ever happened to me at: every other shop allows you to wait outside with your dog for your order. So strange. Wish I could have tried the coffee, but never got the chance.
No wifi for customers although you clearly have wifi, no toilet, no friendly service. You don’t deserve the tip you got. Don’t recommend this place.
Here is why I love NYC. You can jump in to the most random neighborhood coffee shop and get to taste seriously good stuff. I had their almond croissant which was delicious and filled with a tasty almond cream. The coffee was well balanced.

Plowshares is the BEST coffee uptown, run by the BEST people who care deeply about our communities. I'm a years-long loyalist and that won't be changing any time soon!

My favorite UWS java stop. Great straight espresso and delicious pastries (try the guava! they only have 1 daily!).

A wonderful neighborhood spot with staff that is friendly and interesting and the coffee is great. Completely opposite of the “chain” coffee shop experience

Great quality lattes. Friendly baristas. However, the baristas are also really friendly with each other and tend to slow down with the orders. Some, not all of them, do that.

I recently ordered two 12 oz. bags of coffee from Plowshares online—$20 each—and received them within 2–3 days. The coffee was excellent: fresh, flavorful, and worth the price. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to visit their storefront on 105th and Broadway to purchase more in person.
When I arrived, I began to enter the store with my scooter (which I always walk in with, respectfully, and never ride indoors). The door was halfway open when the man behind the counter abruptly shouted, “You can’t come in here!” Confused, I asked, “Really?” and he replied in a sharp tone, “You can’t bring a scooter in here. The store is very small.”
What bothered me wasn’t the policy—I understand small spaces have limits—but rather the rude and dismissive way it was delivered. There was no polite request or explanation, just hostility and what felt like a condescending attitude. I hadn’t even noticed a sign about scooters on the door, and I would have gladly complied had I been asked kindly.
I left without saying more, feeling disappointed. I had planned to buy another $40 worth of coffee and was even considering a monthly subscription. Instead, I called Plowshares and left a voicemail explaining the experience and asking for a call back. As of now, I haven’t heard anything.
It’s unfortunate. A great product should be matched by respectful customer service. I sincerely hope Plowshares addresses this and ensures that customers—especially loyal ones—are treated with basic courtesy.

Excellent coffee, delicious pastries (I have not found anything comparable in the area) and attentive baristas. Highly recommend.
The place is small but it has some comfortable seats.
