Picked up lunch from here today and was greeted by the owner, Mike. He was SO nice and SO welcoming. The food was GREAT. The portion sizes were also great. This was our first time trying this place and will definitely be returning!

Today was my first time ordering and I have to say the Mofongo didn’t taste all that great. It was so hard I couldn’t even cut through it. I would have thought it would have came with gravy.

Got the chicharron de pollo with tostones over veggies. Thought it was pricey for what it was. Tostones were stale, had been sitting out a while. The veggies were more a slaw than actual veggies. Not what I expected.

Respectfully the food doesnt taste like puerto rican authentic food like it did when I first discovered this particular location. I noticed the last 2 times I ordered to go that the arroz con gandules was bland. The tostones weren't fresh, and the potato salad was good one time out of the three times I ordered it. The sauces were watery and it seems the staff don't last long. The other location, before it closed in Essex street market, was excellent. The pernir, arroz, tostones, pollo, everything was fresh and really good. The chef(s) seemed to know how to cook authentic puerto rican food. (Like grandma's cookin). Unfortunately this location & food, doesn't seem authentic or fresh at times. I hope the owner(s) consider hiring better cooks to bring back the true latin flavors of puerto rican food.

Located in The Hungry Pearl food hall with a new chef and later hours. I tried the chicharron de pollo with white rice and the taste was nostalgic of my family’s cooking. Would def recommend to anyone looking for something fried but not too salty.

UPDATE: I want to add a comment after the restaurant replied… I hope that you can take constructive criticism in a respectful manner and hopefully IMPROVE what many reviews are saying about the food (Not just me). Again my review wasn’t meant to offend but when you see that there are others saying the same thing, Think about WHY and not go into defensive mode. An owner saying they don’t care about the customers opinions speaks volumes about the type of people cooking your food. Previous review : I gave this place two chances. Just went again today and I was reminded why I was not happy the first time I went. The food taste old and the rice is burnt. The meat does not taste fresh at all. Very unfortunate!

Anne Hathaway did not spit in my food.

I've had plenty of Puerto Rican & Caribbean Latino food uptown & upstate, but somehow never downtown until now! I'd also had pernil recently, but I really wanted to taste this iteration. It didn't disappoint! The meat & plantains were extremely perfect in texture & flavor. My only minor complaint is that the rice was a little bit bland, but that was quickly rectified w/ a some of the tasty tart vinegary hot sauce that is generously offered at Chevere's counter.

The pernil here used to be so good that I would faithfully bring to potlucks but recently I ordered a lunch and it was only ok. Not sure if they were just having a bad day. Still good food just not amazing like before. The tostones however were still sooo freaking amazing. So deff give that a try if you go

They closed 40 min before time; making it unreliable.

Monday no one was there, while in the hub, there were plenty of eateries open for business. They also changed their chef and the bernil was awful. Going to try out the red kidney beans. Soon I will give my review on that.

We have ordered catering from here for our company celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month 2 years in a row and everything was excellent! The delivery was very smooth and they even gave us extra food and utensils for serving and eating. We ordered platters of pernil, arroz con gandules and maduros and all who attended loved it. This restaurant has consistently good service and high quality delicious food.

I wish i could give this place a 0 star . The food is disgusting and salty. Rice was very mushy, plantains were burnt black and oily. Chicken was burnt and left some yellow stains on my fingers.

I had high expectations for this but very disappointed . I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I had high expectations for the food, but unfortunately, it didn't meet them. The potato salad was a bit sour, as if spoiled, and the overall taste of the food didn't seem fresh, almost as if it was cooked in old oil. I'm glad I gave it a try, but I wouldn't recommend it.
