Gem of a place. Fresh pasta is great, prosciutto is the best I've found, and the clam sauce is a sleeper hit.

No better place in NYC for fresh made sauces, raviolis (and so many options) and smoked mozzerella. Cash only.

Russo’s is a neighborhood staple.

I purchased the mozzarella, vodka sauce and ravioli. All were heavenly!

100+ yrs old, Italian stalwart in East Village. Highly recommend their massive sandwiches that use their homemade mozz and pesto. You can always ask to add pesto to sandwiches that don't have them.

Way back in the early 80s, my mother sent me to the “deli” to pick up some “suprasat” (soppresatta) and a loaf of bread. I picked up the meat and the bread and stepped out of the store and realized it was 2023! Russo’s takes you back to the good old days, before the generic supermarkets offering the same repackaged products. Everything is fresh including the deli meats, homemade pastas/cheeses and the bread (oh, the lard prosciutto bread is the Bomb!). Come prepared for a large purchase because you’ll want everything! Prices are steep but “hey, it’s New York.” Counter service is the same mumbling, rude old man that still yells at you like you’re ten years old. That’s why the 4 stars (not 5). Swing by to get yelled at and to pick up some delicious old-school Italian deliciousness!!

Opened in 1908 and about 300 square foot but packs a mighty punch. Don’t miss out on the time capsule with the best mozzarella cheese I’ve ever had. To be in business that long is just beyond incredible. Please do yourself a favor and check out this place. It’s just amazing and the bread….dont even get me started.

We've been coming to Russo's for years! Love the artichokes, mozz and the sausages! Today we got a sandwich for the first time and it was amazing!! Amazed the others said they didn't like the bread, that was something that stood out, totally different then a stale hero at a deli, it was like the texture of focaccia, soft, but firm and really delicious! We had fresh mozz, which is hand sliced and thick and juicy, but not wet, fried eggplant, roasted peppers and prosciutto. Big enough to share, but so good you might not want to! Highly recommend this Italian sandwich shop, there is nothing else like this in the neighborhood! LOVE!!!

Ppl say it’s great, I didn’t think so. when you serve 3-4 items per sandwich and the bread is stale trash it makes a BIG impact. Decent quality ingredients if it was half the price otherwise I’d recommend you find somewhere better value

Delicious sandwiches. No frills store. Quick service. Lots of premade pasta and raw ingredients too.

If my review was solely based off product offer, it’s absolutely five stars (apart from the fact that everything is very overpriced). However, I’ve been coming to Russo’s for years, and this past year I’ve noticed that time and time again the workers are INSANELY rude to their customers. To the point that it’s almost laughable. Today the man was so unbelievably rude to me, and the customers ahead of me. So when it was my turn to checkout I nicely said that he should consider being kinder to his customers. Almost like in a joking sarcastic way. Anyways, he was so nasty to me and then proceeded to call me some pretty nasty names. Anyways, I just walked out and that will be my last time ever going there. Russo’s, you’re a neighborhood gem, please do better than this!!!!

Love this place! We had some rigatoni from there last week, and I couldn't stop eating it! Tasted like my Aunt Patsy used to make in the 1970s. This week we had Trader Joe's pasta. No comparison. Russo's hot pork sausage was out of this world. Today I bought smoked mozzarella and linguine from Russo's, which my husband will cook up with mushrooms from the Greenmarket.

This place is a magical Italian secret. Fresh pasta, fresh meats, cheeses, and all the trimmings if you want to feel like you’re cooking traditional recipes without having to make them yourself.
