I brought my staff for lunch and was very disappointed. We order Steak, fries and salad for lunch. Steak was supposed to be a top round, london broil. It came out looking like a minute steak over salted and tough. Two of us had to send it back.
Last night was one of the best meals we've ever had at this longtime favorite restaurant! Green bean salad and tomato mozzarella ones were better than usual and the roast chicken was wonderful. Had a bit more au jus (even a little more would be even greater!) While they have daily specials, I do wish they'd change up their regular menu--perhaps a different salmon preparation, a new pasta dish, etc.
We live about 350 miles from NYC and visit once or twice per year. We try to visit Sel et Poivre about every other year for the past 20 years. The food is great, but what brings us back over and over again is it seems nearly everyone else in the restaurant is a local from the neighborhood. That alone is the best recommendation for a restaurant, but it helps me feel like a local when I am in town. So glad this restaurant made it through COVID unscathed; we are all the more fortunate...
