This is a sweet French Bistro we like going to but we also like to order in the food. Love the celeriac salad and the tarte flambee, and the duck a l'orange. Great profiteroles. You also can order directly from them which is nice.

The food was so mediocre. But come to think of it sadly everything about S and P is mediocre.

A restaurant I had ignored for many years and upon looking at the menu, I said hooray an old-fashioned French restaurant that has duck and other wonderful things and I made an appointment for myself my wife and friends. What a total disaster, the Calfs liver, my wife had was terrible and sent it back for kidneys hard-tsteless, the duck orange was tasteless.as was the skate fish. the service was practically nonexistent. I sure I'm lucky. I haven't been back to the place in years. I advise you avoid at all, of costs

I used to love the food here but something has changed. Plus, if u have to go to the loo here.....ITS DOWNSTAIRS...THEY EVEN HAVE A SIGN....HOLD WITH BOTH HANDS. SADLY, even the chocolate terrine was disappointing.

I wanted a quiet, cozy place to bring my date. Sel et Poivre did not disappoint. Service was prompt and gracious, food was excellent. We spent an unhurried 3 hours there.

Everything was good until they couldn't figure out how to cook one filet medallion out of two medallions, TWICE!!! Than the waiter didn't know the difference between Well AND Medium, and on the second time they messed up he tried to almost make it sound like that's what it is, I was super disappointed for they still charged me for half the meal despite them messing it up twice for me! And I I was so frustrated I lost my appetite for the second one all together!

I was in the mood for just a quaint plac, for a late brunch. Their spinach and goat cheese omelette with the side salad was delicious. Very cozy atmospher.

French classic! Very good service. Has a little bar with very good cocktails and wines. Don't miss the duck a la orange, best in town! They have celery remoulade that is very difficult to find in a French restaurant in NY. The ambiance is very french. Excellent omelette! Best bread!! So good and comes warmed. Love it!,

Despite occasional complaints by first-time visitors, Sel et Poivre remains a star among NYC bistros. Yesterday I accompanied a friend to the restaurant for a light lunch. My omelette arrived the way I ordered it - soft or 'baveuse' in French. The fries were crispy and thin. What else can one ask for on a cold January day?

I've eaten here many times and enjoyed it. This time, I was disappointed. The service was terrible. The waiter waited until taking the orders to report that there were no mussels- what we all wanted. It took almost 25 min before our entrees arrived. No one thanked us for dining as we left. And it was much too noisy. I left very unsatisfied after telling my friends how great the restaurant was.

A nice UES neighborhood restaurant offering a wide selection of foods with a continental preparation. Although the average age of the diners could be classified as "senior", and there was (thankfully) no background music, the noise level was more energetic than expected, and desired.

It's a lovely room and the staff is very pleasant. However, they are not very attentive. I asked for more water several times and it never came. Unfortunately, the food was quite mediocre and not worth the price. I would not return.

Sel et Poivre is a throwback to a more civilized age in NYC dining. Lovely room, attentive service, a reasonably priced wine list, and French classics prepared correctly. If you are wondering where the great bistros of yesteryear went, look no further. This is the real deal. Highly recommended for snails, duck a la orange, skate, trout Amandine, steak frites, and the various daily specials.
