Setsugekka East Village Reviews
A serene retreat in the heart of the East Village where you literally get “whisked” away by the exquisite art of matcha tea service. The selections here are high quality, ground and prepared in accordance to tradition … evoking the tea’s journey, personally curated by tea master Mrs. Mori. A NYC gem not to be missed!
Souheki and Junya Mori-sans are two of the most down to earth, genuine people you will ever meet. Setsugekka is a peaceful retreat from the everyday hustle and bustle of New York life. I highly recommend a bowl of matcha hand whisked and enjoyed in one of the many beautifully crafted tea bowls. Also a delight, the various workshops featuring many wonderful Japanese talent. I highly recommend Setsugekka 🙂❤🍵
Setsugekka is one of my favorite places on earth. The matcha is nothing short of life changing. It is the real deal! Go there and you will not be disappointed.

Setsugekka East Village is a small, cozy tea shop that offers a unique experience, allowing customers to watch their drinks being made at the counter. This shop specializes in a variety of matcha drinks, including the popular Seiho matcha, known for its smooth and velvety texture. Customers can choose from three types of matcha, which range from grassy and bitter to sweet and velvety. The hot matcha latte, made with oat milk, is a favored option, celebrated for its smooth and balanced flavor. Visitors can enjoy a traditional tea ceremony as part of the experience, which adds to its charm. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and often recommend different matcha types and pairings, making the visit both educational and enjoyable. While some find the matcha flavor to be mild, many appreciate the subtle taste and the care taken in preparation. The cozy atmosphere, along with the quick service, makes Setsugekka East Village a delightful spot for matcha lovers, though it can get crowded during rush hours. Despite some reviews mentioning that the drinks can be watered down, many consider it a must-visit spot in NYC for traditional matcha and a peaceful experience.
