Not worth the hype or the wait.
We waited 2hrs for our food. Not for a table. Not for a special omakase experience. For basic sushi that should’ve taken 20 minutes max. No one checked in, no apology, no urgency to move tables. Just blank stares and a vibe like this is totally normal.
When the food finally arrived, it was fine. Not life-changing and definitely not worth spending your entire evening sitting around wondering if someone forgot you existed.
If you like sushi and wasting your time, Sugarfish Midtown East is the perfect combo. Otherwise, do yourself a favor—go literally anywhere else

The hostess was incredibly impolite. There is no place to sit and wait for your table, but they forced us to wait ( 55 min) near the restaurant door. There are no vegetarian options at all. When we asked for a bowl of Rice, they said they don't have it!!!?
Bad attitude and it doesn't matter how good the food will be, I will never come back to this restaurant.

Bad quality sushi and only come if you like to have warm rice topped with cold fish. Definitely not an authentic sushi joint. People who don’t know how to appreciate sushi will like this place. Tuna is from Mexican farms and not from Japan. Overall, it’s ok to fill your stomach but this isn’t what sushi is meant to be.

Food was horrible.
The sauce is so salty you can barely taste anything else. I was chugging water throughout. The rice falls apart. The rice is warmer than body temp and fish is ice cold. The shock in the mouth is just unpleasant. The fish slices are so thin that it barely lends taste to the nigiri

I always knew that this restaurant was a safe place to eat sushi and I went here many times due to the quality, but unfortunately this time after eating the scallop cut roll this Wednesday night July 2nd I became so sick and felt nauseous in a couple of hours and I got food poisoning with fever and vomiting. I am still sick from it four days later. My other party members ate other things from the menu and they were OK. I guess I wouldn't suggest to order the scallop roll in the middle of the week. So disappointed.

Food delicious. There is no tipping included in check. It was NYC value. Young noisy fun.

Sugarfish used to be my favorite mid-range sushi in the city. Not anymore. The quality of the fish has gone dramatically downhill, and it has become so relentlessly busy at the 2 locations I frequent (soho and E53rd) that it feels like a cheap fast food sushi factory now.
I always have the nozawa trust me, and last week the toro was unrecognizable as such, and the yellowtail was so cold in the center it felt almost frozen. The texture was off too. The service was fine, but the hostess was unable to keep track of everyone and I was forgotten and would not have gotten a seat if I hadn’t caught her eye and watched her panic-realize she forgot me. She did apologize, but it was completely chaotic.
The magic is gone. So so so disappointing!

This review is for Kenny miles who doesn’t care if you’re pregnant and trying to avoid mercury or if you have an allergy.
Good luck getting a salmon for Tuna substitution if you have an allergy or are pregnant- Kenny miles doesn’t care and he will be rude to you about it too and attempt to throw his kinder coworkers under the bus. Recommend replacing kenny.
The food is Fresh and really tasty, the atmosphere is relaxed in nice
But the staff was unkind and feels really stressed out and personally It make me also feel stressed out and like I have to eat as fast as possible and that’s not fun.
Also we had glasses of juice and the server forced us to throw it away.

This is my favorite restaurant in NYC. I have been coming here for 2 years. It is the best sushi I have ever tasted! What makes this place amazing though is the exceptional service from the servers, kitchen, and management. They care about their business and customers, and it shows. The servers never fail to make my day better. My only complaint is that I cannot leave a tip as hospitality is included. Would love to tip these wonderful people more as they truly deserve it!
