Made a reservation for 8:30 PM via Opentable. It was confirmed. Traveled to the City 2 hours from eastern LI. Stepping up to the door - “the place is closed due to a power outage”. If you have a power outage why wouldn’t you do your best to warn the clients who made reservations that the place is closed? Such a disrespect. Not even gonna give a second try.

Sushi Kaito is an omakase restaurant located in the Upper West Side.• We experienced their 15-course tasting menu.• Despite its simplicity, the restaurant offers high-quality fish and seafood.• The atmosphere is intimate and cozy, though the presence of dusty plastic plants is a minor disappointment.• Nevertheless, overall, it's a positive experience.• The staff is attentive and courteous.

Top-notch omakase experience that won't break the bank! Came here for a dear friend's 30th and were absolutely delighted with the value we got.

Food-- very very tasty, flavorful, punchy. I even had one or two bites of food that I had never had before, which is saying something given how frequently I go to omakase spots in the city Service-- attentive and friendly Ambiance-- unfortunately this is where I docked a couple stars, the smell inside the restaurant was very unpleasantly fishy, totally at odds with how wonderful and fresh the food was

We've been here almost 10 times in the past 6 months. The entire experience is truly excellent. All of the staff are fantastic — extremely kind and helpful. The food is 10/10 delicious — very fresh and perfectly garnished. We love the variety and differences in menu each time we come, and love how consistently excellent the food and service always is. This is a can't miss omakase.

This is an omakase only menu -- no a la carte. The food was excellent.However...Too many nigiri was brazed with a propane torch and brushed with a sweet sauce. If the fish is fresh, that's unnecessary.I get it. You're marketing to an affluent sector of the UWS. But... be true to the cuisine.I'll be back, but please offer an omakase without the unnecessary catering to the local palate.Raw fish is the entire point of the evening.Arigato, gochisosama des'

Amazing amazing food, sushi and service. Top notch Omakase. However, the place is a bit run down. The table is used heavily, the lighting is too bright and bathroom a bit shabby. Temperature regulation in the restaurant is also problem.

My wife and I have dined here 5 times now, making it our most frequented omakase in NYC (and we've probably been to close to 30 now). The quality per $ spent has to be the highest in Manhattan here. We've always had a great time and the fish is always incredible.

Sushi Kaito is an absolutely fabulous sushi experience! My husband and I have gone multiple times and we have never been disappointed. Prospective diners need to understand that it is an omakasa restaurant - serving a chef-selected sushi-only meal. It is not a place to go if you want to get other types Japanese food. If you have specific allergies, some substitutions are possible, but if you cannot eat fish and/or shellfish don't go there. The sushi is absolutely fresh and prepared right in front of you. There are no tables. All the guests sit at a sushi bar, facing one of the chefs. When he places the next piece of sushi in front of you, he tells you what it is. It is fun to watch the chef's skill. There is a wide choice of cold saki and one can also order beer, wine, or hot saki. Hard liquor isn't on the menu. I highly recommend Sushi Kaito. Having eaten sushi in other sushi restaurants, including some in Japan, I can assure you that no sushi restaurant is better and most are not as good. Reservations are essential and it is wise to make your reservation well in advance.

Hidden gem on the UWS with a fantastic omakase experience. Counter seating only, 12 seats, three seatings per evening. We chose the standard omakase menu which featured two small bite appetizers, 13 beautifully prepared, delicious nigiri, a toro hand roll and dessert. Each bite was better than the next, and it was fascinating to watch the chefs at work, who are clearly masters of their craft. Service was outstanding, attentive but not overbearing. We will definitely be back!

I got the omakase and it's nice because you don't have to all be sitting at the same time with the other guests. It can be individual or with your arrived party. It's $115 with appetizer, 14 courses, and a dessert. Tax and tip not included. Fresh selections. My faves were the striped Jack and golden eye snapper.
