I am Japanese living in NY.
Friends in Japan often ask me ‘ can you eat good Japanese food in ny?’ I said we can get more delicious stuff than Japan if we pay twice to triple price. Here is typical one.

Torien was okay not great. Mainly it wasn't worth the price by a long shot. It's all chicken, I knew that going in. It was well and precisely cooked but simply not particularly tasty. It isn't near the top the list of yakitori places in NYC, frankly I have had much better on the street in Seoul and Tokyo. Realistically I would pass on this. The room and the presentation was okay at best, the service was good it's just that its a meal that was worth maybe 15%...
I was a little disappointed that the meatball skewer was not served with an onsen egg.
The wonton soup was unique and had a silky texture. Loved how the menu finished with a comforting bowl of ramen and a smooth caramel purin.
