I went to the bar alone at 4:55pm after a long week of work, ordered a burger and looked at the drink menu, then told they would not serve me food. Really? The bar was empty, nobody was there. Apparently the bartenders can just tell you to leave if you don’t look the “right” way.
The owner NAILED IT! The atmosphere is amazing, with outdoor seating on the beautiful Hudson River. The food is awesome too. I try something new each visit and am pleased every time. My guests are equally impressed. Our new favorite spot in the beautiful Hudson Valley. You will LOVE it!
Went here on June 21st 2025 with a party of four for a birthday celebration. When we received the check at the end, it was a little over $200 for four people added a 20% tip onto the top of that. Then either server or the restaurant decided to add their own tip on top of that and the total came out to $349.79! They never gave us a receipt and didn’t see it to a few days later when checking back account. WTF is this nonsense and because we didn’t get a physical receipt, our...read full review

The Governess bar & restaurant offers a pleasant and laid-back atmosphere, with a beautiful riverfront patio providing a beautiful waterfront view. The owner NAILED IT! The food is consistently delicious and awesome, with oversized portions that meat eaters thoroughly enjoyed. The waitstaff are friendly and accommodating, and the service is a highlight. The cocktails are well-presented and arrive quickly, and the beers in tap are delicious. The holiday decorations are supreme, and the Frozen themed bathrooms are destination and instagram worthy. The Governess is a welcoming spot with a good vibe, well worth a repeat visit.
