About Talay

Talay is a hidden gem that serves exceptional Thai food. Despite its unassuming appearance, the restaurant offers a pleasant and kind welcome, with the possibility to eat in a comfortable setting. It is a small, no-frill, seated fast food spot run by an elderly couple, located near the Staten Island ferry station. The menu boasts a range of delicious dishes, including gluten-free options, all cooked to order. Popular choices include Green Curry with shrimp, Eggplant with Basil Sauce with chicken sautéed, Mama's Fried Chicken with French fries, and Kao Pad, which many find to be the best they've ever tried. The food feels authentic and homemade, offering a comforting mix of flavors and perfect textures. Customers can substitute white rice with brown rice for an extra $2, and enjoy drinks like taro bubble tea. The drunken noodles were delightful, and the restaurant can prepare dishes without fish sauce for those with dietary restrictions. Service is quick despite the busy environment, with a helpful host guiding customers. The chicken Pad Se Eew (flat noodle) is especially praised for tasting much better than expected and better than many expensive Thai restaurants in Manhattan. Overall, Talay is a must-visit for those craving authentic and flavorful Thai cuisine, especially for those seeking a cozy, family-run spot away from tourist traps.

True Thai food flavor, decent prices, great menu overall. We keep exploring the menu and is just awesome.

I visited this restaurant for the first time and left extremely satisfied. The staff made us feel welcome from the very beginning, and the service remained excellent throughout the meal. The food was fresh, flavorful, and cooked with great attention to detail. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere that made us want to stay longer. I will certainly be back.

Hole in the wall place, but dont let that deceive you. Got the shrimp and pineapple curry, and holy hell was it good! Just spicy enough to make me tear up, absolutely packed with flavor. Wish I had a reason to come to this area again. Give this place a try!
