Dave's Cosmic Subs

Ordered online on 11/23/25 for pickup. When I went to pickup my order the store was not open despite it being within hours. Unfortunately, I reached out via the website and attempted to call, but was unable to connect to get the charge on my card resolved for goods I never received.

The recent reviews are unfortunately accurate, it's now a corporate buyout and one of the best sub places in Cleveland has been ruined. The ingredients are noticeably cheaper and the sauce doesn't even relatively taste the same anymore. The logo that used to be Dave himself is now AI generated art and everything inside feels so soulless. RIP to one of the Cleveland gems, don't waste your money here.

Private equity got involved and changed all the food. Ingredients taste cheap. The signature sauce has been replaced with what tastes like plain mayo with some dry basil flakes added to look like the original sauce. The bread is worse now, and the rolls are bigger but filled with less meats and veggies. Unique menu items have been replaced with nasty cafeteria recipes.

A classic Cleveland shop has been turned into a slop mill. If I wanted food like this there are dozens of options out there. Dave's Cosmic Subs isn't Dave's or cosmic at all, anymore. Another example of investment bros ruining everything.

I never thought I'd have another italian sub sandwich again after I stopped eating meat in the late '90s (yeah, people can do it for that long and still be alive. Amazing, right?). And then I saw that Dave's Cosmic Subs has vegan options. Well now I'm enjoying them again thanks to this place. I can't believe I've waited this long to try anything from them, but I'm making up for it now.

Absolutely horrible experience. My family and I ordered 3 subs at 1:05, and over an hour later at 2:10 they were still not ready after we watched people that ordered 30-40 minutes after us already get their subs. I’m not sure how it takes 4 workers over an hour to make 3 subs but apparently it’s possible. We finally asked for a refund and were met with attitude initially - very poor customer service. I know this restaurant really does have good food, but unfortunately when your employees are entirely rude and disorganized when taking care of customers the experience is ruined.

This is a far cry from the Dave's Subs of the past. It has clearly been purchased by a larger Franchisee organization, and it's ingredients sourced from a more cost conscious option. The rebranding and inside decor is sterile and lacks character. It may say Dave's Subs on the outside, but inside, Dave's is long gone.

Beyond Disappointed. There is no consistency here. I ordered the Grateful Dave and one time it came without sprouts, the next avocado and yesterday almost no turkey. How do you screw this up. I want to support local businesses but they need to come through on their end.

I would have normally rated much higher since I have ordered here many times. I walked in at 7:48 pm and was greeted by 3 staff persons stating they were closed. I said ok walked out and looked at my watch, went back, confirmed the posted hours on door (8:00pm). Went back in and asked why closing early? “We turned off oven”, clearly the staff was more interested in leaving than doing their job. I just wanted a cold Turkey sub for my bride who had spent most of the day in the hospital with a grandchild. Poor attitude and work ethic. I hope the owner reads this.

Dave's is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. I love their vegan meatball sub, they don't skimp out on the "meat" balls and the cosmic sauce works really well with the marinara.

Cheesesteak sandwich was absolutely mid at best. I really would not consider it a cheesesteak. Honestly a bit dry, I had to add my own sauce at home. For $12+ per sub, thank god for BOGO deal today. I would have been even more upset if I spent $25 on this meal.
