China Palace is a restaurant with a long history, having served customers since 2000 at its original Malton location. The environment is nice and it is consistently busy with a steady flow of customers. Reviews of the food are mixed but generally positive, with many customers finding it great, consistent, and served HOT and FRESH in BIG PORTIONS. Specific praised dishes include anything Manchurian style and China Palace style food, with the Manchurian chow mein highlighted as very flavorful and tasty. Dumplings are also recommended, though one experience found them burned. The lunch special is considered decent but overpriced, with portions sometimes seen as small for the price, such as with the vegetable fried rice and mixed vegetables with black bean sauce.
However, the service receives significant criticism. It is frequently described as TERRIBLE, very poor, and unprofessional, with staff lacking customer service skills. Specific complaints include long waits to order and for food to arrive, waiters not checking back, and one young waitress being rude. The restaurant is also noted to serve non-halal meat unless specifically requested. Prices have risen, with most items now ranging from $14 to $20 or more. Despite service issues, many customers return because they really enjoy the food.
