Makira Sushi is hands down our absolute favorite sushi spot. We order from them about once a week, and every single time the food is fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared. The quality is consistently outstanding — you can truly taste the care they put into everything they make.

This past Sunday, we had one of the most touching customer service experiences we’ve ever had. It was about 15 minutes before closing, and we suddenly had the idea to do sushi for dinner. I thought, oh no, they’re probably closing, but my husband called anyway. Without hesitation, they said “no problem at all” and happily accommodated us.

Not only that — they gave us extra food we didn’t even order, enough for two full dinners and even the next day. When we tried to pay for the extra food, they refused to charge us. That level of kindness, generosity, and genuine care is something you almost never see anymore.

The service is unreal, the owners are incredible people, and the food is always unbelievable. I truly wish more businesses operated with this kind of heart and integrity. Places like Makira Sushi deserve more than five stars — they deserve seven stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.

“This is the best a la carte sushi place in London. I dont remember how I found it the first time, but I have been 6 times over the past year and a half and every time I am impressed. The quality of the sushi is top notch, the speed that they get the food out is great, and the servers are always courteous. It's a really nice experience, better than you expect from a strip mall by a gas station. It looks good inside as well. I have been using it to meet business clients and it goes well.“

“I had such a great experience at Koya! The vibe is super chill and welcoming, and the staff were really friendly and helpful without being over the top.

The food was honestly amazing—everything tasted fresh and flavorful. I tried the udon and it was probably the best I’ve ever had. The broth was rich and comforting, and the noodles had that perfect chew. The sushi was also on point—super fresh and nicely presented without being fussy.

It’s clear they really care about quality here, but it doesn’t feel pretentious at all. Just good food, good atmosphere, and good service. Definitely a spot I’d go back to, whether for a casual night out or a little treat-yourself moment. Highly recommend!“

“Have always seen Umiya Sushi when driving through downtown London. Thought to go and order something tonight to see if I may have a new local favourite. I was greeted upon entry by a lovey younger gentleman, he was very polite and friendly. Even when I was picking up my order 3 minute until closing.

I got the Salmon Trio and an extra miso soup. If I knew how wonderful my all around experience would have been I would’ve never been to any other sushi restaurant.

And may I say, some of the freshest salmon I have ever had. I was beyond impressed, especially for my first time going. I will be going by to try more now that I know the quality.

All around a 10/10 truly recommend to anyone who is looking for a new favourite restaurant.“

The place has such a cozy atmosphere and feels how restaurants used to feel before they got all overly modernized. They have lots of items to choose from on their menu: we had the Salmon Lover sushi set (comes with miso soup and garden salad) and Red Snapper Katsu! 3 of us had to take out leftovers because we were so full - and total bill with tip came to under $60!!! “We got the Bento box with beef teriyaki and a regular signature teriyaki dish upgraded to noodles. It was all good, the sushi was not great but that's to be expected. The service was excellent, we were the only ones eating in (Sunday around 3pm) and everything was brought to us. They even checked in and showed us both noodle options before we chose what to order. For what it is, no complaints, especially because we had a 2 for 1 deal.“
