Wonderful option for a tea, coffee or to find one's next book.
Absolutely love this place! As someone who lives right around the corner and loves books, this place is incredible. Also, seriously if you’re going there, get the chocolate mint cookies, they taste so good!
Arguably the best used book store in Ottawa. Massive selection for very good prices. Books both old and relatively new with most if them in an electronic system so that the staff can help you find specific items or authors, rare in a lot of used book stores of this scale. The gentleman at the counter, Joe, was able to help me find multiple items and was knowledgeable on their subject matter. Will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Ottawa

Black Squirrel Books & Espresso Bar is a charming bookstore cafe that caters to book lovers and those seeking a cozy study spot. The establishment boasts a varied customer base, great coffee, and a unique ambiance, making it an ideal place for reading, browsing books, or even a casual date. The selection of books is impressive, offering a better variety than larger bookstores, and the prices are reasonable. Visitors can enjoy a variety of treats, including the popular mint chocolate cookies and delicious gluten-free/vegan chocolate mint cookies. The drinks and pastries are very good, with options like elderberry iced tea lemonade, chocolatine, and lemon square. The staff are friendly and helpful, providing book recommendations and quick, pleasant service. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly, perfect for sitting and working or exploring the well-lit basement section, which is peaceful and quiet. Although there are fewer seats, this makes the space quieter and more relaxing. Overall, it’s a delightful place where customers often leave with more books than they planned, thanks to the impressive selection and welcoming environment. Arriving early is recommended on weekends to secure a good spot, as it tends to be busy.
