Chesterfield's Gastro Diner is a popular spot known for its fresh and tasty ingredients. Despite long waits, the food is worth it, and the unique hollandaise sauce adds a twist to classic dishes. Customers recommend the Brussel sprouts, blueberry pancakes, and Jerk Benny with Mac cheese. Vegetarian options like the Veggie Benny on a quinoa patty are also available. The staff is friendly, and the coffee is enjoyable while waiting for the delicious meals to arrive. Recently, visitors enjoyed brunch, with the chicken and waffles being a highlight, and appreciated the homemade food and great vibe of the place. The team is young and attentive, ensuring good quality and appealing presentation. It is a great place for a satisfying meal with good company, though arriving early is recommended as it can get quite crowded.
The restaurant can be very busy, especially on weekends, with wait times of about 20-30 minutes, but the food and atmosphere make it worth the wait. The service is excellent, with staff being very accommodating, especially for gluten-free options like the Spice Girl Benny served on a potato cake. The location is easy to find on a major street, and there is a parking lot, though signs can be confusing as they reference Wonton House. Free street parking is also available. The decor includes several old school Chesterfields in the waiting area, creating a cozy vibe. The place is often crowded, and wait times are honest and upfront, but many guests feel it would benefit from expansion to handle the steady flow of customers. The menu offers a wide selection of incredible dishes, and the cleanliness of the washrooms is appreciated, though they are in the basement and not wheelchair accessible. Overall, Chesterfield's Gastro Diner is a fantastic spot for a satisfying meal with good company, and the quality of food and service make it a must-visit.
Recently, guests praised it as one of the best brunch places in Ottawa, noting a welcoming environment with kind staff and warm service. The new, larger venue with a nice waiting room helps make conversations easier, as the previous location’s concrete walls made it loud. Many customers enjoy the solid breakfast/brunch options that are a little different from typical offerings. One visitor loved trying the jerk plantains and mango salsa with their pancakes, describing the flavors as so good they had to try it, and plans to have it with a savory main next time. The fresh squeezed orange juice was also appreciated. Overall, the restaurant continues to be a favorite for quality food, friendly service, and a great atmosphere.
