“Absolutely incredible sushi—takeout only, but totally worth it. You can tell they put real care into every dish, and even make their own soy sauce, which is a nice touch. There aren’t any seats nearby, so it’s best to bring it home, but the quality easily rivals dine-in spots. A hidden gem for sushi lovers in Toronto.“

“Tried today for the first time and hands down the best quality and tasting nigiri I've had in Toronto. I haven't been to a zillion places or anything, but I have eaten at some high end omakase and Japanese restaurants and have spent upwards of double and almost triple what I paid at Oroshi today, for way less in terms of both quantity and quality. I ordered 16 pieces of nigiri total. I asked if the wasabi came on it already and the gentleman at the counter said it's usually on the side but asked if I wanted it on the nigiri and I said that would be great, maybe they don't normally do that but I was super appreciative of it (because I was planning to eat it while walking home). I came around 5pm, not sure if it's 1 person making the nigiri or multiple, but whoever made my order was an absolute beast in the best way, normally wherever I get sushi I hardly taste the wasabi and I can only slightly make it out, but there was definitely a lot of wasabi on these and it was amazing, I love spicy, and instantly I felt the heat come up through my nose and it's hard to explain but it wasn't like a bad burning feeling, more like an energizing burn if that makes sense, it just comes over you in a quick wave and then leaves your nose feeling like how it feels to chew a piece of gum and chug an ice cold glass of water, only for a few seconds and then fades away, maybe not intended or that's not what should happen? I don't honestly know, but it blew me away and I loved it. I saw another review here that said Oroshi ruined sushi for them because they can't go anywhere else now, and I'll have to agree with that, I definitely won't be able to go anywhere else. I don't know the logistics behind doing something like this but I think it would be dope if they had some special fish or weekly fish or something that maybe they only carry once in a blue moon, since it is a fairly standard selection, but I totally understand that it might not be feasible or fiscally worth it for them, or maybe they do occasionally do that already and I just happened to come at a time that they weren't, regardless, if you like nigiri style sushi you absolutely should try them out. Sushi rice was also spot on, at least for me, just the right amount and great texture. The packaging was also so fancy and the food looked so good inside it that I almost didn't want to eat it. They are for sure taking a hit on the packaging which is all the more reason to try them out and support them, anyone who will go out of their way to package their food like that clearly cares about the overall quality of the product and that's just so rare to find these days in my opinion.“

“Great fusion experience, of course, with a Japanese base and inspiration. 5 course tasting meal with wine pairing is a great haute cuisine dining experience; for people that like a volume of food order sushi on the side or an extra main course, but otherwise high quality, reasonable quantity! night time view of city lights is great! staff were polite and attentive! Thanks for running a great restaurant!“

“The Deluxe Chirashi usually contains toro, uni, and a piece of salmon belly (sometimes depending on availability). The last one I got didn't have uni :( buy the 3 pieces of toro really hit the spot and made up for it. The prices are amazing for the quality that you get, especially downtown. For higher quality than this, one would have to go to Jabistro or something and pay at least double. Too bad you guys don't have a more extensive sushi menu, with things like hokkaidon and sushi omakase of the best 10-15 pieces. If you guys were to have a nigiri sushi omakase, I would definitely try it out.“

Lonch Sushi & Teriyaki Sushi Bar • $
1000 Gerrard St E, Toronto

“Sushi on Gerrard came very highly recommended to me but I had a tough time contacting the restaurant. Apparently it has recently reopened at a new location and hasn’t fully updated its web site. It has a bit more information on Facebook but that didn’t help me. Eventually I was able to contact Sushi on Gerrard and had some great food delivered. Fresh shiitake mushrooms sautéed with garlic butter and soy sauce, being a hot dish, were OK and would have been better eaten at the restaurant instead of being delivered. The Scallop Roll, Dynamite Roll, Godzilla Roll and especially the Spider Roll were excellent. We would, and very likely will, order from Sushi on Gerrard again on this visit to Toronto.“

“yes the ramen and the udon noodles may have been more expensive than their downtown equivalent but these were very well done, with a broth that had a good layering of flavours, served quick and hot. Compared to other places at Pearson I would be pleased to eat here again - actually given the quick and friendly service and the fact that I really enjoyed my meal, I'd be happy to go back even if it were in downtown.“
