Fantastic food and service. Nice bar & lounge as well!
I’ve been coming here since I was a child. It was my grandpa’s favorite restaurant. I hadn’t been there in quite awhile and after eating there tonight, my husband and I will be coming back. The service was outstanding and the food was even better. Best egg flower soup around.
You would never know it was much of a Chinese food restaurant from the outside, but the food is quite good. There aren't many Chinese restaurants in the area, but this is my favorite.
07/2026 - Outstanding Kung Pao chicken. I wish the soup was hotter (temperature).

Golden Star Restaurant is an old-school Americanized Chinese food place in Astoria. The menu offers combo plates or preferred entrees at reasonable prices. Service is always fast and friendly, and the food arrives quickly. Portions are generous, making it a place locals rely on for a comforting, familiar meal. The building is a bit weathered inside and out, and the bar in the back always has locals in it.
The hot & sour soup is a great opener: flavorful, balanced, and served piping hot. The sweet-and-sour chicken is crisp and bright, with some noting it as the best they have ever had. The moo goo gai pan is fresh and tender with a light savory sauce. The Cashew Chicken has a ton of vegetables and liberal nuts. The General Tso Tofu, an off-menu creation, has impressive fried tofu texture and great sauce balance. The Kung Pao Tofu is flavorful and satisfying. The egg roll is rather slimy inside and very salty.
The staff is accommodating, willing to make custom dishes for vegan requests. Golden Star is the best Chinese food you can get at a reasonable price within 900 miles.
