“We were treated exceptionally well with great suggestions made for our order, half and half halal chicken 65 and paneer pesto pizza, the best samosas I’ve ever had, and the cheese bread with pineapple, jalapeño, add pepperoni. Everything tasted fresh and was made to order. The establishment seemed clean and well in order. The biggest highlight was the people working though. For their kindness and enthusiasm alone I’d very highly recommend.“

“Wow!! Where do I start off with this hidden gem in the neighborhood. Well great location. Easy parking. As soon as my wife and I entered we were both greeted, but hey it's a tavern and so not expected. We sat ourselves right in the middle of the place and menu was already sitting on the table. Within 2 minutes a server came to the table to ask for drinks. My reason for coming was there sign in front about chicken. So when we ordered we ordered the chicken fried steak with biscuit and gravy. Chicken cooked to a perfection. Breast meat. What caught me with this dish was how well seasoned it is. Atmosphere is a bit different and some colored people it may seem a turn off, but let me tell you. I felt welcomed, waitress came by and checked on us and the memorabilia that flooded this place is more than enough to visit again which my wife and I will come again. The chicken was cooked to perfection, the eggs perfect and also seasoned well. TV playing all the sports I needed to see that day. Not to loud. Great place overall. Would definitely come back.“

We also tried the kimchi pasta, which was creamy and spicy. It was also full of chicken. The fries also seemed to be battered fried so they are also extra crispy.

“Comfort food. Flavor bombs in every bite. Growing up as a kid it was always a disappointment going to a restaurant and the food isnt as good as what you get at home when your Asian. “I’m new to the Cheerful Tortoise and I’ve been driving by it most of my life. I had no idea that it’s been around for over 75 years which is pretty amazing… And it is right in the middle of Portland State University and is a home away from home for people who need a place to go on holidays or special occasions when everybody else has family. I met Amy and heard her story in an interview… And feel like she is providing a place that is the heart of the downtown community in a very open way. I went last night for hip-hop night and the skill set of the DJs was off the chart… DJ Wicked and DJ Good Fortune are two of the nicest men I’ve met in a long time in the DJ world. They are an old-school staple and people have no idea how blessed we are to have their skills and music selection in our community. The staff at the restaurant everybody has been very kind and friendly to me. Everybody that was in the restaurant the two times I’ve been there seem to truly enjoy themselves and there were families with kids along with people playing pool and lottery in the back. It kind of feels like a hobbit bar because of its age….. I like it. It deserves my patronage and you can feel the history in it. I really dig how it feels. Nothing like a good old dive bar from old Portland… I’m a little late, figuring it out but with their happy hour specials and their drink night specials this is a place I can afford. It’s pretty evident that the people leaving reviews on here are using the cancel culture tactics which is very tired. I was actually one of the people who also complained about what the Portland Pickles were doing and was grossly offended by all of it. It had nothing to do with drag. It had everything to do with kids putting dollar bills in the thong of a pickle that was dressed like a stripper and the penis that was coming out of some of the images talking about Uranus. I immediately withdrew my child from Baseball camp and want nothing more to do with the organization. It’s embarrassing. The people leaving these reviews are sick and mean and hateful. These are not honest reviews. It’s just a testimony of people operating at a lower level who enjoy hating others = the exact thing they’re complaining about. The people who yell from the mountain topped the loudest are the ones who are actually displaying the behavior. I met Amy briefly and can tell immediately that as a mom, a business owner, and somebody who has spent her time at this bar…. you can feel the love she has for community. When I was at hip-hop night, there were people from all walks of life, genders, preferences, etc. I don’t know what these people are talking about but definitely don’t overlook a place that has history in Portland!“

“I placed an online order earlier in the day and scheduled it for delivery later in the evening so it would arrive around the time my family got together 🍕😊. Surprisingly, the pizza showed up about 15 minutes earlier than expected. When we opened the boxes, we realized that some of the pizza combinations and sizes seemed mixed up, which left everyone a little confused at first 😅.

I decided to call the restaurant and calmly explained the situation. The staff handled it incredibly well and were very understanding. Without any hassle, they immediately fixed the mistake and even sent out a completely new order for delivery! 🚗💨

Even though I can make perfectly good bbq ribs myself this place is very good when you need the fix and don't have the time. “Received a coupon for a free pizza in the mail. I called it in. Went in picked it up. The staff person was very friendly. Handed me the pizza. It was hot, how I ordered it. There were sufficient toppings and the sauce was moderately tangy. The crust was buttery with garlic. For a free fast food pizza I was very pleased. I will return. !!!!

It was probably 45:minutes until I see our delivery driver park outside the house. First thing he said was that he was really sorry for taking so long, that Sherwood was closed and his Tualatin location was taking Sherwood's orders!! I was amazed! “We just got BBQ to go from Dickey's BBQ now located next to the MOD pizza in the Cruse Meadows Commons off Meadows Rd. It takes a lot of faith to open up a new venture at any time and especially now. This is a chain and the owner is local. We tried the brisket, pulled pork and spare ribs. All had good flavor and were very tender. The ribs had a nice smoke ring and were falling off the bone. All the sides were good except we didn't love the beans. I liked the potato casserole (basically loaded mashed potatoes) and the cabbage slaw was like what you get it KFC or Safeway deli but not as sweet. We tried 3 sauces - Classic, Carolina and Sweet. Enjoyed all of them. They run a $12.99 special of the day that rotates and offer a free kids meal on Sundays with regular entree orders. Loyalty points are available thru their app. If you haven't tried them yet, reward their leap of faith and get your good bbq grub on.“
