I didn’t know there was such a thing as more pork than I could eat, but I was wrong - tonkatsu ramen!
As a Ramen fan, after multiple visits where everything has been extremely consistent, I really wanted to love this place but... The service and atmosphere are great and I enjoyed the drink selection but their tonkotsu broth is crazy salty, and then with the minced pork is salty and oily again, and it just comes out as a salty, greasy mess. Best ramen in Portland.
Boxer is a cozy and hip restaurant with a great atmosphere, complete with living plants on the walls and Japanese fabric framed as art. The menu is small, but the ramen dishes are delicious, with popular options like the Tonkatsu Ramen, which comes with a medium-poached egg and black garlic oil. The bar is fully stocked, and the service is prompt. While some dishes, like the Spicy Red Miso, can be overpowering, the noodles are excellent. The Ahi Poke Bowl is also a flavorful option. Be prepared to use chopsticks, as they are the only visible utensils available. Overall, Boxer is a great spot to stop in for a tasty and unique dining experience.
