Food was decent. Interesting menu. Great mixed drink choices. I had the special pork ribs; they were very dry, like they'd been kept under a heat lamp for hours. Other items were much better. Cautiously recommended.

If you’re looking for authentic Lao-Thai food, this is the place. The waitress was super friendly and helpful with cocktail recommendations. We ordered the papaya salad — you can request it mild if you’re not good with spicy food. The fish sauce wings were really good and reminded us of the legendary Pok Pok wings we’ve been craving.

The mango sticky rice was also interesting and different from the regular Thai version we usually have — it’s more on the sweet soup side.

I went here with my wife after our beach trip. We ordered Chicken larb, papaya salad, cucumber salad, Lao sausage and spicy noodle. The chicken larb was alright. The papaya salad was a little too salty. The cucumber salad was not edible because of how bitter it was, so I had to throw that away. The Lao sausage would have been good if it wasn't so overcooked. The spicy noodles were alright.

We stopped by Khao Niew in Portland and had a solid experience overall. They have a super cute patio, which made for a nice setting. The spring rolls, larb gai, and pepper-salted calamari stood out, and the portions were generous.

The service was a bright spot, our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly. Overall, it was a pleasant visit with good service and a few enjoyable dishes.

I’m lucky to be able to walk to this place but I would happily drive across town for this food.
The soup is out of control and the service is always lovely.

Don’t sleep on this place. Weirdly hidden gem in Cully and you won’t regret stopping in.

I ordered the Sien Savanh and Khao Poon. Both were great. I would have liked more sticky rice with the beef. The soup had great flavor.

The slowest food truck in the world. Waited over 30 minutes for mango sticky rice, when I went to go ask about it, they said they were out of mango so they gave us a refund. Just wish they would’ve told that to us when we ordered instead of wasting our time

I left wanting to find somewhere to satisfy me. The ribs were overcooked and lacking of identity. The sticky rice looked as if it was a few days old and brought no satisfaction. The meatballs on a stick were probably purchased from Costco or Ikea and had no flavor probably cause they looked fresh out the microwave but at least the cucumber slices were fresh. My wife's porkbelly sandwich had a little more flavor but once again it was overcooked pork. The food served was a disservice to the efforts put into providing a great atmosphere.

This place is super unique and cute. Patio seating as well as indoor (with bar).

Friend and I shared a bunch of things: nam khao, Lao sausage, thum mak hoong, peppered salted tofu, and khao piek.

I really appreciated that I could get genuinely spicy thum mak hoong and I asked for extra lettuce (free of charge)! I’ll be trying the downtown food cart location and seeing if it’s comparable as this brick and mortar space was GREAT! I would absolutely come here again, maybe with my dog next time. Authentic flavors, quick service, and plenty of seating - it even has its own private parking lot.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been two years since our special event. Life has been wonderfully chaotic, but I’ve finally taken a moment to reflect and I couldn’t go any longer without expressing our deep appreciation for Khao Niew Lao Food.

When we began planning our celebration, we knew we wanted to serve traditional Lao food, but finding an authentic and reliable caterer in town was no easy task. Thankfully, a friend recommended Khao Niew, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we made.

From the very beginning, working with the owner was a truly supportive experience. Planning a major event can be overwhelming, but her kindness, patience, and clear communication helped everything fall into place smoothly. She took great care in understanding what we were hoping for, and it showed in every detail.

The food itself was incredible. Deeply comforting, flavorful, and made with so much heart. It felt like being served a home-cooked meal made by someone who understands the soul of Lao cuisine. Many of our guests had never experienced Lao food before, and they still talk about how delicious everything was at our reception.

If you’re searching for a place that offers not only authentic Lao food but also genuine warmth and hospitality, Khao Niew is it. The team is welcoming, attentive, and clearly passionate about sharing Lao culture through food.

Very good, we got the Larb gai, calamari, salad rolls, and pot stickers.

This place is a little small gem for authentic Laos food. It's a family like atmosphere where you order your food at the counter and then they'll bring out your food when it's ready. They do not have servers, so it's self-serve water and clean up. The staff they do have, though, is very friendly. They also use paper plates instead of the usual washable plates for eating, but food is served on actual plates. The food, though, is excellent and tasty. It's definitely a must go if you're looking for authentic laos food.

The food is great and the owner is amazing! She takes care of the community around her and deserves all the business she can get!
