This ramen restaurant is really not worth the price. I’ve never had ramen that came without an egg and with just a single slice of chashu. The portion was extremely small. Ordering is self-service, so I’m not sure what kind of service would even warrant tipping. I definitely won’t be coming back.

I'm glad that Hood River has a ramen option but I don't find it to be amazing or good value.
I got the black garlic ramen with extra pork and it was nearly $30 after tax and tip.
The broth is very mild. Perfect if you like mild things.
I go here once every few years.

The broth was great, unfortunately that's all that was great. When I bit into the soft boiled egg it was cold on the inside. I tried to let the cook know, but he was defensive and said it's prepared the day before and refrigerated and that he warmed it up in the water.
Yeah I get how soft boiled eggs are made, but you don't serve them cold in ramen. The contrast with the rest of the warm bite is very unappealing. And the defensiveness is totally unnecessary. If this feedback gets back to you please work on being more accepting of feedback.
Other than that the noodles are mediocre. There are much better ramen shops in the Portland area and this was not worth visiting IMO. I will not come back
Always good food. They're fast as well.

Mugen Noodle Bar is so cool! This place is a little slice of Japan complete with a gorgeous wooden noodle bar (outside seating available as well).
Theres a great variety of dishes and beverages. The staff are warm & friendly and the prices are fair. But, the food? 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
I've tried several other ramen places, but Mugen wins the gold medal! Try em out!
Two more tips: their spicy dishes can taste somewhat mild for you lovers of 🌶🌶🌶.
That means if you want more heat ask for a side of their chili sauce. That also means means don't be afraid to try a dish if its marked as spicy.
Also they don't do doordash & such (most likely because delivery ramen is never as good as fresh from the pot!)

The egg rolls and house salad are NOT vegan. The worker explained the “V” on the menu simply means vegetarian. The salad dressing is mayonnaise-based and the egg rolls have egg (which maybe sounds obvious, but as we know, sometimes these things are called egg rolls even when they don’t contain egg). There IS an area of the menu labeled vegan, and includes 1 ramen, 1 curry, and 1 “mazemen”, which is described as a broth-less ramen. We got the curry and the mazemen. They were pretty good! But I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back.
I ordered the Tori Paitan with pork. The broth was very bland. The slice of pork was literally 2 bites. It was quite disappointing overall.

Contrary to what other reviews would have led me to believe, our experience at Mugen on a Friday night was one of the most disappointing I’ve had in a while.
Came in to the restaurant and said hello to the staff behind the counter and were ignored, so we browsed the menu while we waited for them to greet us for our order.
While we looked down we heard “FOR HERE OR FOR TAKEOUT” (I put it in all caps cause by the second time they said it and we realized they were talking to us and not the other customers they were basically yelling). We then asked to dine in and proceeded to go sit at a table until we were ready to order.
Customer service past that point continued to be pretty bad. Our food was delivered without a word and no polite exchanges were had. Our thank you’s for the food were met with complete silence which just felt super awkward and uncomfortable.
When we got our food, the noodles lacked flavor and the broth/meat followed suit. The chili paste was the only thing that saved it.
The water brought to the table was murky and clouded, which was unsettling, and the Thai tea we ordered was watered down to hell.
I get that food service is a hard job. It’s brutal. I’ve done it. But you just don’t treat people, let alone customers, like that.
Needless to say, I definitely won’t be back. I hope that Friday night was a one off and not a representation of their regular service.

This is the best ramen I’ve had outside of Japan. Hands down. 10/10 would recommend. I also love the style. Reminds me of a couple ramen shops I’ve been to in Japan.
