They even had onigiri! Lovely place, friendly staff, well priced tasty food.
I went with my fam and we ordered the combo, katsu curry, and udon salad. Our favorite thing was the crispy fried root vegetable fritter, not sure what it was called and the tater tots were nice. The katsu was nicely crisped but lacking salt or a sauce drizzle, and the curry was quite bland and we asked for salt. The salad was fine, but pretty standard. The onigari with pumpkin seed miso and yuzu was weird tasting and the ginger pistachio was also strange, we didn’t finish it. Overall it was underwhelming, not sure if it was on off day but it was all lacking flavor or imagination. Still fun to try!
We shared the combo plate and the tempura udon. Both were really good, great presentation, and unique flavours (buddhas hand onigiri!?) The strawberry red bean daifuku was insanely good!
This place was delicious. I came back multiple times throughout my time in Portland. I was happy to find something close to the convention center that had such good food. It was much better than the vegan options offered for my conference, haha. That staff was really helpful and made some great recommendations. Make sure to try the desserts too! A great luncheon experience, serving creative and delicious menu items. Owners and staff couldn’t have been nicer. Beautifully arranged plates, I could tell a lot of love goes into each and every item. I definitely recommend Obon Shokudo.
Nice crispy tofu Cool flavor combinations Try all the sauces
I had a good meal served by very friendly staff. I had upon noodles with a dipping sauce and a delicious saki. I highly recommend this place.
What I love about this place is the curry. I love that they have something for everyone and it's so flavorful. They have a very nice drink selection as well from Teas to Cocktails. Updated from previous review on 2025-05-26
We shared a combo and an Okonomiyaki which we had never had before. It was amazing! Perfect mix of flavor and textures.
My husband was thrilled they serve okonomiki. He grew up eating these in Japan, but they're never on menus in America. It was authentic and delicious. I had the combo which allowed me to sample seven different menu items, all delicious. We will definitely return next time we're in Portland. (Maybe I'll remember to take photos then!) Second time eating in the restaurant and I've also had their food when they catered / vended at Pickathon. Outstanding! I had The Combo, which consists of two onigiri, one giant tot, one curried korokke and kakiage w/ sesame + a small salad. Ordered some chili crisp and it came with a few sauces for the various items. A wonderful melange of flavors and textures. Delicious. Enjoyed combining the flavors as well. Also tried a few bites of pickled veggie side dish and that was also sublime. Great spot!
We needed a light lunch on our vegan food-filled weekend in Portland. This place was perfect. My miso stew was wonderfully flavorful and full of tofu and other goodness.
Loved this place, the vibe, the staff. Came back to try more. They use many fun misos (pistachio, pumpkin… I suspect they make miso in-house). Favorites were the desserts, especially the cheesecake and the panna cota.
Kenchinjiru (ginger miso soup) was tasty, a bit oily. The giant tater tots and kakiage were delicious, though very greasy.
Got the Buddha's Hand with Hominy Miso Onigiri and the Udon Salad. The flavors of the salad were super tasty, very savory and flavorful. The crunch and textures of the salad were SO good, really recommend it! The onigiri is really good and I've gotten the Buddha's Hand one multiple times previously. The citrusy flavors keep drawing me back. There's so many other flavors to try but I get this one every time. I've previously gotten The Combo (under Bento and Curry) and that was very tasty as well. Also the restaurant gives away free yuzu sprouts occasionally! Very cute if you like plants. Updated from previous review on 2025-03-01
