It's a small tasting room with some outdoor seating. The space was just not that inviting, in my opinion. We came during the heat of the summer, and it was very stuffy inside, despite being empty of customers.
The drinks were good, though! In previous reviews, we saw pictures with flights, so my husband ordered a flight to get some samples. The bartender said they don't serve flights.
Sort of had a feeling that he didn't like us for some reason because he wasn't friendly, he seemed pretty friendly and lively when the next couple arrived though.
Another thing to note, they don't serve food but there is a restaurant in the same lot you can order food from.
One of my favorite places in Portland! If you like/love German style beers, this is your place. OUTSTANDING beers and great service. Outstanding outdoor patio. Views of Forest Park and St. John's Bridge. LOVE THIS PLACE!
I used to love Occidental and still am a big fan of their beer. I will not be returning or giving them any business as the manager (owner?) refused to serve my friend and I because I happened to have a sleeping baby in a carrier. The laws are frankly pretty opaque about this in Oregon, and most breweries have not given me any issue. I’ve asked restaurant and brewery owners, and all have indicated that so long as food is being served, it is considered a restaurant. In other words, the owner of Occidental is choosing to enforce an old and archaic law arbitrarily even though literally no bar, brewery or restaurant has lost their liquor license in Oregon for such a violation in recent history. Also, the dude just had bad vibes. I strongly recommend the beer garden across the parking lot, which thankfully serves delicious alternative European-style beers. Cheers to Portland for having plenty of options!
We love having a beer at Occidental. Often, we take a deck of cards and a cribbage board and hangout while enjoying a delicious brew. My favorite of late is a Japanese inspired rice beer. My husband consistently goes for the Hefeweizen. The only downside is the lack of food... We do hear that they may add a food cart or two. We hope it's true!
Still the best little octoberfest in Pdx… but please, play the chicken dance! (That’s from my daughter) food and beer is always spot on. Great brewery to visit anytime of the year!
Amazing brewery in a nice neighborhood in Portland. Wednesday's trivia is challenging but entertaining. The host is fantastic. They are right by Urban German which serves good food. This is definitely a place I will keep coming back to time and again for their beer.

We tried their Apple cider in here. Surprisingly it was good and fresh, perfect for summer.
I've been coming here for 6 years. The beer gets better year after year. Come for the beer, come for the amazing trivia night, and enjoy the view of the St Johns bridge and have an awesome time. If you're coming to Portland this is a must go to place.
Really well executed German style beers. Split a tasting flight with my husband and we enjoyed them all. The staff was extremely kind and welcoming. Would recommend!

Delicious beer in an old school NW brewing style warehouse.
I would love to support this place, but I just cannot justify the sky high prices.A (vegan) wurst with “curry” sauce and a single beer was $30 (including tip). And that’s not even an entree dish (which are $30+ each) of any kind! It’s a brat on a plate with fries.“Curry” sauce was same as the curry ketchup at condiment station inside, but with more tomato paste added. That’s it. It was a single cut up wurst (which tasted great btw), with some spiced tomato paste, and fries for $20.You have got to be kidding. That plate was worth $9, max.Are the fries good? Yes. But they’re fries.Guys, it’s counter service and you bus your own table.Price point is overall preposterous.

On a cool Nov Saturday evening, this spot is warm, parking wasn’t hard to find and the staff was so friendly.Dark beer is their Lucubrator and the lighter one is their Rauch Helles.
Great beers and customer service. Indoor and outdoor seating with covered patio.
