Not bad. I might be able to criticize a thing or two about the food, but nothing that would keep me from coming back.I do wish breakfast places in Portland would make more clear options on the menu that don’t automatically come with meat. If I’m building my own breakfast, can’t I pick hashbrowns or a cheaper option without the meat included? It’s not just this restaurant, it’s almost all of the breakfast spots. I appreciated the chicken sausage link option here, but it cost extra. What’s wrong with hash browns?Anyway, service was great and if I had room I bet the desserts would have been too. Cute place.

Our recent visit to Black Bear Diner on 82nd Ave left much to be desired. Despite our hopes for a satisfying dining experience, we were met with slow and inattentive service that set the tone for the rest of our meal. From the moment we were seated, it was clear that the staff was overwhelmed and struggling to keep up with the demand. They neglected to check on us for refills, and it took an eternity for them to even take our order. The food, unfortunately, did not redeem the experience. The hashbrowns were greasy and soggy, lacking the crispiness we had hoped for. My chicken fried steak arrived overcooked and lacking flavor, a disappointing rendition of a classic dish. My wife's Denver omelet was equally disappointing, with an overly salty taste and undercooked vegetables that left much to be desired. The overcrowded atmosphere, especially on weekends, likely contributed to the subpar experience. It's clear that Black Bear Diner on 82nd Ave is struggling to maintain quality and service standards during peak hours, resulting in a lackluster dining experience for patrons.Overall, we left feeling disappointed and unlikely to return. While the diner may have its loyal fans, our experience fell far short of expectations.Parking: Hard to park on the weekend.Kid-friendliness: They have an extensive kids menu and coloring sheet to keep then busy.

Albeit a chain, Black Bear Diner's usually have pretty good eats. Service is pretty good, portions are beyond ample, if you leave there still hungry there's something wrong with you. Usually have breakfast, regardless of the time of day, and it usually doesn't disappoint. Staff is friendly and usually take pretty good care of you. When I'm in need of some home cooking/comfort food, the Bear brings this Cub to the Den.
The manager seems to not be able to keep his hands to himself. Weird environment. He clutched 3 different girls waists with both his hands. One of which cried out during the encounter. Weird.
