Rude Service, mid food

Queen KGR

Horrible service. The lady had a hideous attitude. The cannoli is $6 EACH and the pizza is served cold and when you ask if they can hear it up they give you an attitude like if it's normal to eat cold pizza. Never coming back again

Philadelphia, like New York, is a city where many Italian immigrants have settled, so there is a Little Italy. When you go there, it's half Mexican, but there's a lot of Italian food.

If there is a special Italian food that can only be found in Philadelphia, it is tomato pie. Just hearing the name brings to mind pizza, but Philadelphians do not treat it as pizza.

The difference is that tomato pie is baked with tomato paste spread on bread dough rather than dough. It was created in the process of processing leftover bread dough and is still loved to this day.

I wanted to see how different the taste would be, so I visited a historic bakery in Little Italy that was good at making tomato pies. It is said that in 1918, an Italian immigrant opened a business in the same spot as it is now.

Other than tomato pie, there weren't many other breads for sale, and there were two types of tomato pie. There are two types: classic without cheese and with cheese.

I thought it wouldn't be much different from pizza if it had cheese on top, so I took the classic version and ate it. There was only tomato paste spread on the thick bread with crispy edges.

With a simple appearance like a marinara pizza, the tomato paste soaked into the bread like a sponge after taking a bite. It was very soft at the edges and had a strong tomato paste taste.

Because there was no cheese, it didn't have any savory flavor, and it was a combination of lightness and acidity, but the more I ate it, the more I was strangely attracted to it. In particular, unlike the edges, the edges were very crispy and were a delicacy.

If you don't mind dealing with someone who has a stick up their ass that's great. However, if you plan on getting a tomato pie from here for an event you have, don't expect to be able to pick it up in time for said event or expect that they will accommodate you. I called a few weeks ago about putting an order in for a tomato pie and was told to call back two days before. Event is this Saturday out in the burbs. Called to place my order and was asked what time I wanted to pick it up. I told the woman I needed it between 8:30 and 9am. When I told the woman, she tells me I can't until 10 am. I told her I needed to be in the burbs for 10 to set up party. She basically laughed in my face. Thankfully I was able to get a tomato pie from another well-known spot in the city and they had no trouble helping me out.

Wonderful, Old World charm in South Philly. Family owned for century. The appeal is undeniable. We only got cannoli's, but everything looked and smelled wonderful. And yes, they even sell pizza. Cash only, so come prepared.
