after having what could be arguably the worst possible day in which my apartment lost power during a literal heatwave, dealing with so much stress i physically couldn't eat until evening, i thought that maybe, just maybe, i could catch a single break and enjoy a bean quesadilla for a late night dinner. i also *specifically* made a note saying that i don't eat meat. when i got there to pick my order up, absolutely no one acknowledged me even though i'd been standing there for over 10 minutes in the designated area for online orders, and when i literally begged someone to check on my order, they finally gave it to me. when i opened my box, guess what? the quesadilla was absolutely PACKED WITH CHICKEN. great. guess i'll just starve. never ever ordering from this place again if this was the last restaurant on Earth.

We were looking for a fun spot to take our five kids out for dinner and, since we all love Mexican food, decided to try Mad Mex in Shadyside. The staff was friendly and we were seated quickly, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended.
We were seated at a family-sized booth along the back wall, which was covered in nude and other explicit artwork. It was shocking and inappropriate for a space where families are clearly expected to sit. This is not a family-friendly environment, and we were incredibly uncomfortable having our children surrounded by that kind of content.
To make matters worse, a server brought an alcoholic drink to our table that we had not ordered, and our kids were never given the drinks that were supposed to come with their kids’ meals.
We left disappointed and will not be returning. If you’re dining with children, we strongly suggest choosing a different restaurant.

We embarked on a memorable lunch tour of the area, discovering a different Mad Mex from years past, and it was truly fantastic! The vibrant atmosphere with garage doors and refreshing margaritas made for an uplifting experience. The food and service exceeded our expectations! I wholeheartedly recommend this place and look forward to returning!

A lot of open tables, told me and my girlfriend they couldn't sit 2 people there and cleaned off the table and sat 2 people that came in after us in the same spot they said we couldn't be seated, then when the food came out the enchiladas tasted horrible like it was beyond spoiled !!!!! 0/0 never again

Mediocre Mexicana 7/10 Experience 📍The food was basic, cooked well but not that flavorful ⭐️Great Happy Hour Deal - Added shrimp to nachos grande and got about 6 shrimp, - Strawberry Mango Margarita was pretty good but didn’t really taste the flavor of drink. (Tasted like generic margarita mix) - San Francisco sauce with wings was pretty tasty
➕Server also took about 10 minutes in between each time I saw them although restaurant was fairly empty
I waited for my takeout order for over half an hour. Never order takeout here — the service is terrible. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone

This is about the second time I’ve received bad service and there definitely won’t be a third as I won’t be returning.
My sister and I are near 30…after being ID’d for alcoholic beverages (which is fine)…the server watched our IDs then returned a while after to double check the expiration date :s . I was so utterly confused and it’s just about the second time experiencing an issue to get an alcoholic beverage.

We never have a bad meal when we come to visit Mad Mex Shadyside. We frequent there at least once a month and prefer this location over all others . The food and service are always excellent . It is always very clean and the whole team is very welcoming . Management is always in circulation making sure everything is up to par. We always bring additional friends and family when we visit as we know we are in for a great meal with exceptional service. Keep up the great work! We can hardly wait until our next visit!
