Probably the best food in Oakland, but it is fairly pricey compared to places nearby.

Used to be a nice place for a healthy bowl, and the portions were pretty generous too, so I felt like I was getting good value. Unfortunately, they seem to have recently switched to much smaller bowls, yet decided to keep the price the same (same price, less food). I asked the staff who confirmed the change and they mentioned that other people had also noticed. It is unfortunate that greed and shrinkflation have taken a hold here. Will probably not return.

I’ve only been once, but holy cow it was delicious. I ordered El Jefe with all the stuff and everything was super fresh and tasty. I went because I was looking for something healthy so I couldn’t have been happier that it actually tasted good.

The only downside was there is only one nice place to sit in the whole restaurant and it was occupied. All the other seating is in the basement which wasn’t inviting.

My friend and I both got bowls with the roots rice, greens, BBQ tofu, and other stuff for dinner last night. They were so good that we are getting the same again today. Their tofu is really tasty, and so are their dressings. Really good vegan options. The cilantro dressing is fantastic of you’re getting Mexican / southwestern ingredients. They have chipotle Tobasco and Franks original hot sauces. Only slight gripe is the pickled carrots were just regular shredded carrots. But not a big deal. Really tasty for how healthy it is. Probably gluten free too but who knows.

I usually have a great experience here but today my bowl was lacking quantity of the ingredients. I tried the new rissa bowl, which had only about 6 small size chicken pieces (usually there is enough chicken for leftovers). It was also completely missing the pecans, which are an essential part of the fall flavor for this bowl. Lastly it was very dry and lacking the normal amount of tahini dressing. I have had their bowls in the past and they have never lacked ingredients, so maybe just a fluke during dinner time on a weekend? Definitely was not worth the $15

Super hard rice, it was hard to chew and I worried about indigestion. Food largely cold, wished there were more hot options. They use disposable cutlery. Left not satisfied,

Made it before it turned 9 pm and they already threw the food out. Thought most places kept food until they completely closed.

I love Roots, and while there have been occasional mix-ups, like missing sweet potatoes, I’ve usually let it go. But today, I found three long blonde hairs, each over a foot long, tangled in my salad. One was so deeply embedded I couldn’t even pull it out it was anchored to the bottom, which was honestly repulsive.

I called the store to let them know and ask for a refund, but was surprised by the lack of basic customer service. The person I spoke with didn’t apologize or show any real concern, he simply told me to request a refund through Uber Eats. He did offer to remake the salad, which I appreciated, but said I’d have to pick it up myself. When I asked if it could be delivered, he replied flatly: “Nope.”

Uber eats told me to contact Roots for a refund since it was a quality issue. Called Roots back and was left on hold.

Really disappointing experience from a place I’ve always supported and held to a high standard.

I ordered (via uber eats) a create your own bowl. The bowl arrived missing the chicken, mushrooms and cheese. I double checked my order and verified that I did indeed order all of those ingredients. I reached out to Uber eats and the only thing that was offered was to refund the money for the missing items. Because I was at work (a 12 hour shift) and needed more than just kale and rice, I called the restaurant to order just a side of chicken. I was told that it is not possible to order just a side via the app or over the phone. In order to order a side, I must go into the restaurant to order. I explained that I was at work and cannot leave to go in to order. I was told “sorry. Have a nice day”.
I would have thought that since it was Roots’ mistake, they would be able to accommodate somehow. There was no attempt to offer a resilution. Roots used to one of my favorites as the food has always been very flavorful. However, after consuming the kale and rice, I wasn’t impressed with the flavor. Nor was it a filling meal worth $19 (after the 5.99 I was refunded for the chicken, cheese and mushrooms).

The ingredients are delicious, but it’s just so disappointing when you order delivery (right from the store website too), and you can’t rely on receiving the dressing that’s supposed to come with it. The dressing it what pulls the whole thing together, why is it so hard to read a label and include the dressing on a salad?

We ordered 2 salads, and no dressing for either arrived. Very delicious but just a little disappointed.
