I was beginning to think that knowledge about how to make a great Reuben was lost! When we planned a trip to my hometown, Pittsburgh, I was thinking that outside of NYC, I’m guessing The Burgh will have a good Reuben. I went on my trusty Trip Advisor app and found Smallman Street Deli. Yum! We were not disappointed. This is a lunch counter deli with some seating, no table service. REALLY worth it!
I thought it was going to be Kosher but I don't believe it was. I came for the corned beef on rye and the Matzo Ball soup. Neither disappointed though the sandwich was just average, and the soup was actually pretty good, only scalding hot and served in a styrofoam bowl, which I needed to blow on for 15 minutes until it was edible and I almost needed an oxygen recharge. I can't wait to order from them again! We purchased two 10oz NY strip steaks, and there was a great sale. I love that you can order in advance online, and select a pick up time. The owners are super friendly, and even offered to deliver the food, since they were going to be in the area. This is a great butcher!
